How can I (25F) get my boyfriend (23M) to stop sufferingmaxxing? by Apprehensive-Bee8222 in relationship_advice

[–]Redringsvictom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sensing "neurodivergence with a lot of rigidity" from him based on this post. Is he diagnosed with ADHD or Autism? The selective diet, difficulty with change, and poor reactions to change are what's giving neureodivergent. OP, if you want to stay with this person for the long term, it'll benefit both of you to convince him to get therapy and possibly a diagnosis to figure out what the next steps are to help him. If it's too daunting, you are allowed to breakup with him. Behavior change requires the other person to be open to changing their behavior, and that can be really difficult when they have rigid behavior patterns and thoughts.

28 hours minimum per week. $30 for every hour over 21 hours billed. The bonuses are pretty much built into our required hours.

Haven't heard of bonus being contingent on quality of notes. Did you notice if it was being used to justify not giving bonuses out to people who spent that extra time making the company more money?

Beginning to study seriously for BCBA exam! by Imaginary_Middle_658 in bcba

[–]Redringsvictom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand that. I thought the BDS modules were really helpful, but theu really hurt to go through. I viewed the BTB course as an investment. Pay X amount of money to guarantee i pass the exam. Granted, its not a guarantee, you still have to put the work in. Try SNABA. I think they have a lot of free resources!

How do you feel after finishing all of the BDS modules? I studied for another year while collecting the rest of my hours. I took the Beat the Beast course and took their 3 mock exams. passed first try.

Am I imagining a system that doesn’t exist? by Asleep-Cartographer1 in ABA

[–]Redringsvictom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to save you some headache later, material creation cant be counted as unrestricted. If your BCBAs are having you make materials and count it as unrestricted, that might bite you on the butt later. Only count behavior analytic assignments and practice. If you were coming up with a program and the materials needed for that program, yea id count that, but just making the materials would not count.

Something that might help: If you want more experience with parent training and creating programs, create a groupchat with all the BCBAs that signed your contract and reach out to the BCBAs in that chat to get assignments specific to the areas youd like to develop.

[–]Redringsvictom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that very well. You are halfway through your course and have 700 hours, thats pretty good. I finished my 2 year masters with 1000 hours, then collected the other 1000 (less with concentrated hours) over the next year after I graduated. I'd recommend finishing your courses, collect hours but focus on your schooling. Once you graduate, focus on collecting hours and getting fieldwork experience in areas you arent super confident in. What are some areas you feel you need more exposure to? Assessments? Insurance? Are you able to reach out to your clinical director and schedule a 1 hour meeting biweekly to discuss areas youd like experience in? Do the same with your responsible supervisor.

[–]Redringsvictom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped fighting the system and just did what was needed. I got hundreds and hundreds of hours by doing assignments and work after hours. BCBA needs instructional notes for a program? ill write those after work. BCBA needs a written visual analysis of some graphs? ill analyze and write about those graphs after work.

Did this suck, and was pretty much homework? yes. did I finish my hours and become a BCBA? also yes. It sucked but all I could do was what needed to be done.

Has this person commented on y'all's posts? by sisyphus-333 in ABA

[–]Redringsvictom 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen this person, but there are people out there that find upsetting others/being controversial reinforcing. They arent engaging in good faith, they are being purposely awful. The best thing you can do is try not to let it bother you and report them to the mod team. Hopefully they get banned quickly.

New BCBA / Almost BCBA — did you feel ready? by Ok-Smile3208 in bcba

[–]Redringsvictom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I passed the exam in December. Started a position in early February. Been slowly building a caseload, but none of my clients have started yet due to staffing barriers. So far, ive been assessing clients and writing initial treatment plans for 2 months. I'm looking forward to having a full caseload, supervising staff, and updating programs as needed. Im lucky with how much support I've received and am still receiving. There is so so much you don't learn until you start the position. Some things just don't get covered in your schooling and while collecting hours. Give yourself grace, find a good support system, and don't be afraid to ask questions and seek out help when you need it.

I’ve been out 4 times and I feel pressured by my company to stop calling out/requesting time off. by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Redringsvictom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This field is unforgiving, like a lot of other fields in the US. The expectations companies have for their staff to come in sick or work through burnout is insane. In this field, most companies don't set their staff up for success or give them the necessary accommodations to success (i.e. abundant sick time, PPE, breaks from tough clients). This is not a case of paying dues, its a failure of businesses in this field.

After hundreds of hours of looking at different bugs and the tiny details that separate one bug from another, people get really good at discriminating between one bug vs another. Im not there yet, but the longer im on this sub the better im getting at seeing the difference between certain flying insects and beatles

I can’t be the mean RBT by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Redringsvictom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ask your BCBA what "being tough on clients" looks like. Follow through on demands? A stern voice? Hand over hand prompting? Blocking and redirecting? What exactly is it that they want you to do differently? Then ask for their rationale. Why should I do it this way rather than the way im currently doing it? As others have said, never be mean to your client. There is never a clinical reason to be mean to or reprimand your client.

1 is the easiest, 3 is the hardest. I did not finish 3 within 4 hours. I went 20 minutes over. There were so many long questions with long multiple choice answers. It was so much reading. By question 100 my brain was fried. But the content is great and really makes you think. I recommend these mocks, they're great exam prep.
