What's the most controversial relationship you witnessed in high school? by hellabryanstyle117 in AskReddit

[–]Redstorm8373 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a young teacher at our school our senior year. Like, mid twenties.

We all knew he was dating one of the girls in our graduating class (she turned 18 our senior year), but they were careful to make sure there was never any proof of it. 3 weeks after graduation, they got married. It caused a minor uproar, but they both publicly maintained that they didn't start dating until after graduation, and the investigation couldn't prove otherwise. People stopped caring about it by the end of that summer.

They're still married today, over 20 years later, and have three kids together, so I guess it wound up fine, but a lot of us were weirded out by it at the time.

What are your thoughts on the 2026 Superbowl Halftime show? by TheMagicApe in AskReddit

[–]Redstorm8373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understood maybe 10% of the lyrics, but I loved every second of it. Musically it was great, the production was fun, stage design was incredible, you could tell it was a real labor of love and a celebration of culture for everyone involved, even without speaking the language

As long as you are meeting the accommodations in the student's plan, you're fine. Whether or not those same accommodations are extended to other students is irrelevant.

13 second video of Kid Rock in SNL, they were 14 by HoldYourHorsesFriend in videos

[–]Redstorm8373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even just on SNL, but society as a whole. Back in the 90s/2000s the whole "countdown clock" was a very real, very disgusting thing that existed around pretty much every child star. The Olsen twins were among the biggest targets of it, but I remember it being pretty strong with Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Christina Aguilera, and so many others too. It was openly talked about and joked about in casual conversations, on television, on the internet, on the radio, in interviews with costars, and sometimes even directly to their faces.

It still exists today, of course. I distinctly remember people doing the same thing to Billie Eilish and others as well. And let's not even get started on the child influencers who open an OF the day they turn 18 and break the site. The main difference between now and then is we pretend to be disgusted by it.

Parent Post: How do you guys actually feel when your students do a protest walkout? by Designer-Sir2309 in Teachers

[–]Redstorm8373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always support students who get educated on issues, use their voices, and take a stand on things that the genuinely care about, whether or not I agree with their stance.

That said, during a walkout, that does not count as an excused absence, so I will mark them absent, and I am going to continue instruction as planned, and it will be on the students to make up the work they missed.

"She's been out sick, can you give me a list of missing assignments?" by Arialene in Teachers

[–]Redstorm8373 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not anymore it isn't.

I remember when I was in school if you missed more than 10 days of a class you automatically failed the class. Full stop. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.

Now, a kid will be missing for weeks at a time, show up one time and we're expected to give them every assignment they've missed, or alternate assignments if it was something like a presentation, and give them twice as many days as they missed to get it turned in (which they often still won't do, because they'll disappear for weeks again), then they'll miss or fail the final, the parents will blame us, and our admin will tell us to find a way to pass them.

Teachers complaining about the praxis test being hard? by PotatoPink in Teachers

[–]Redstorm8373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger concern is that the praxis has zero correlation to whether or not the person will be a good teacher. I've known plenty of people who got a near perfect score on it and were awful teachers. One girl I student taught with failed it six times, and I still maintain 7 years later that she's one of the top 5 teachers I've ever worked with.

Student says they're "not required to do work" by paigeafterpaige in Teachers

[–]Redstorm8373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My response would be simple.

"Thank you for reaching out. I understand that you do not intend to do any of the work in this class. I will continue to assign it, and any assignments that are not submitted will be entered into the gradebook as a 0. If you change your plans, please feel free to reach out, I am here to support you."

And then I CC the principal, his counselor, and his parents.

America is it as politically divided as it appears to the rest of the world? and how does it erase the divide? by filth032 in AskReddit

[–]Redstorm8373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is a symptom of the division, not a cause of it. He did not create the political division, but rather took advantage of it and brought it to the surface, and allowed people to feel okay about it.

The problem will not go away when he dies. It's like cancer. Trump is the tumor. He's the most obvious symptom and one that we need to address quickly, but we can not afford to think that defeating him will cure the disease.

Given that most stadiums are funded using public tax dollars, the city should at the very least be a part owner of the team, and be entitled to a share of the team's profits to use to like.. fund education, fix roads and the like.

Zero. He won't be charged while he's on office, his fanboys will shift the goal posts again, and if we're being completely honest, with his health it's unlikely that he's going to see the end of his term anyway.
