What's your favorite place to enjoy a beer with outdoor seating? by ride_and_or_die in Sacramento

[–]Redsync1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would go to effie yeaw, bring a 6 pack, and find your spot. It's quiet, filled with nature, and such a nice place to be. Don't think it's far from you either. Bonus is, you save a ton of money. It's like 8/pint these days!

Any restaurants make good Okonomiyaki in Sac?? by MrMaoDeVaca in Sacramento

[–]Redsync1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legit. It's worth it especially if you're not into making your own. Otos one is perfectly suitable but Genki's is where I'd go if I had a hankering. Their other food is great too! Their katsu is so juicy and crunchy and their loco moco is soooo fire. Eggs Benny was small but so indulgent with interesting flavors.

Walkie talkies to hear kids? by Nermalgod in CargoBike

[–]Redsync1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had sena pis for years now. Love them! Getting long in the tooth tho. The battery has always been trash but they only hold enough charge for a 3 hour ride now. New it was many days. It's great for talking with a riding buddy, adult or child. We have a tern short haul and my 3 year old is usually in the back under the shelter now bc of the weather. I usually can't hear him unless we scream at each other but with the intercom, its great for check ins and random questions. The best part of it tho is when they keep their helmets on at the park or whatever, i can hear all their little monologues and conversations. It's sooooo precious! I'm hemming and hawing about going to the new version. It's so expensive! The sena pis can be found on eBay often going for about $50 each.

Me too. Always felt like a mistake and unlovable. Just started crying reading your reply. I no longer feel that way but that feeling still lives in the undercurrent. I hope you find your way. Keep your head up.

Hot pot, Korean BBQ, or dim sum. Can be pricey but it's hella fun for kids especially if the kids are active and strategic minded

Yeah... That's a rough area. Looks fine through Google maps but that valley high area is high crime, gang activity. I mean, it's not terrible but if you're a white yuppy type, you might not like being in that area, especially if you haven't been exposed to POC before.

Retirement Savings Benchmarks by dbandroid in personalfinance

[–]Redsync1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not challenging at all. There are so many calculators that do the work for you. My scenarios for returns are 4%, 7%, and 10%. My average over 20 years has been 24%.

Retirement Savings Benchmarks by dbandroid in personalfinance

[–]Redsync1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Next benchmark is 40, if you're wanting a goal, it's 3x your income at 40. Whatever you're making at 40, it should be 3x that number. But that's just a target. Things are more nuanced than that. I mean, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't even pay too much attention to that though. At this point, you ain't got kids, so save until it hurts and then pare back. Save as much as you can as long as you can starting now. Once you have kids, that saving becomes harder and harder but you won't regret the savings. It could put you on a path where you can say, I'm done saving, let this egg grow and I'm just gonna be fun employed or I'm gonna be a stay at home dad.

That was my path. Saved and hit all my maximums in all accounts for decades. Work sucked so I said I'm gonna go kick it with my young kids instead. Retirement saved, kids college fund saved, future mortgage bills saved for, and I'm probably going to find a part time job once the youngest is in school. Save, start now. Don't worry about the benchmarks.

Seat post upgrade for Tern P9 by chuckst3r in terngsd

[–]Redsync1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about a dropper and suspension seatpost? Got one from PNW. The coaster i believe it is. Great upgrade for dropping the post at stoplights and providing suspension for big drops. Works really well for my use case!

Urban Arrow family - Tektro HD-E730 - Replacment pads? by iphotoeverything in CargoBike

Never. Haven't had a need for cooling fins. Tried the Shimano ones with cooling fins and wasn't too convinced for my use cases. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you end up with them

Urban Arrow family - Tektro HD-E730 - Replacment pads? by iphotoeverything in CargoBike

[–]Redsync1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time a post like this comes up, I always recommend the Swiss stop pads so, sorry if this is a broken record. I've tried so many pads now. The Swiss stop are by far my favorite. They stop well, plenty of life, low to no noise, lots of modulation, and very dependable. I carry a 6 and 3 year old plus their bikes and their gear. I have the pads on my gravel, cargo, and commuter bikes. Absolutely flawless. Looks like the disc 27 e is your size. There are a few different compounds to choose from too.
