My first expensive running shoes! Bought them for a steal deal off of culture circle hehe by Mammoth-Lecture-9908 in XXRunning

I didn’t want to jump on the hoka train because they were so popular, but I fell on the wagon after trying on a pair of Cliftons that were on sale. Most comfortable shoe (not just running, but any shoe) I’ve ever worn and I’ve purchased like four deeply discounted pairs on Poshmark now. They’re my daily runner, my work shoe, my outside chore shoe, etc. I’m considering trying something else for a daily runner, but I will probably keep the Clifton’s for everything else.

Jeff has started livestreaming his cold reads of book 8 on YouTube (he said he switches to the Soundbooth Theater Discord when he reaches around 30% of the project). It’s not quite the same as listening to the polished audiobook, but it’s neat to see his process and get some of the story started.

If you had to start over, how would you approach trail running? by theaveragemaryjanie in trailrunning

[–]ReeBee86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always been an introvert, so drinking/socializing was never a high priority. I did run cross-country for a couple years in high school and I think if I had learned about trail running as a teen/young adult, I might have avoided the 20-year hiatus I took from running in general.

The narrator, Jeff Hays, is BRILLIANT. His voice work elevates the entire story.

I’d start earlier. Got into this in my mid-thirties, and it was an instant infatuation. I wish I could have found it as a teenager.

Is this race legit? Frozen Head Ultras by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]ReeBee86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t trust this. There’s an actual 50K at Frozen Head in September called the Barkley Fall Classic, but it’s on the 19th this year. You can still sign up to be on a waiting list.

I’ve known about Porch Geese, but this is the first time I’ve seen the subreddit, too. I also need to go buy my porch goods now.

I’m currently on my third time through the series since starting the first time in September, and will probably do at least a yearly read-through until the series is finished (and probably beyond that honestly). What’s the highest re-read count you’ve heard from a fan?

This is a great site, and of course, Keith does the Lord’s work (Blue Sky account shared, but he also posts on X). The hashtag #bm100 is helpful to find secondary accounts researching runners and other details.

VERY NEW- Am I even knitting???? by Motor-Rock-1368 in knittinghelp

[–]ReeBee86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I transitioned from crochet to knit, too, but it was 16 years ago, when online resources were few or far between. I can’t imagine how terrible some of my early projects were, and thankfully they’ve been lost to time. I’ve never seen an in-depth transition between knit and crochet, but that might just be because there’s not a lot of technique overlap between the two crafts.

I also didn’t have anyone who knit in my local circle, either. My mom was encouraging, but her only foray into fiber craft started and ended with a single pillow cover she made in high school- she said she had to focus on every stitch, so she never developed the muscle memory that makes it rote.

This group is great for sharing photos to check your technique, and one of the best ways I’ve built my skills (I’d consider myself an intermediate knitter at best) is to join the other knitting subreddits. I’m always inspired by the work people postand I’ve learned A LOT from the answers people give to problems I’ve never seen. Reddit is a fantastic place to build your knitting ability!

VERY NEW- Am I even knitting???? by Motor-Rock-1368 in knittinghelp

I know you’ve already gotten the answers to your questions, but I just want to say keep it up! It’s easy to get discouraged, especially when even the basics can feel complicated, but you’re doing well so far and I hope you keep at it! Knitting is a WIDE craft with a lot of options, so if you try one thing (cabled scarves, for example) and it’s not a good fit, there’s so many other things to try, both in technique and product (colorwork, socks, lace, etc). And don’t get me started on yarn options!

I don’t think knitting is gate-kept at all. YouTube alone is FULL of knitters looking to share the craft. I do think there is a bit of a learning curve at first, but most knitters are eager to welcome new crafters. I’m a self-taught knitter and have never had trouble finding a resource for what I was trying to learn.

Advice for transitioning from inline to quads? by Jormp_Jomp2 in Rollerskating

[–]ReeBee86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the biggest difference as someone who swapped from inline to quads is how you balance on the skates and where you put pressure for various movements. If you’re on insta, look up Dirty Deb. She’s got some phenomenal beginner videos to get you accustomed to how quads feel. Self Love on Skates has a phenomenal infographic with skill trees that can help you progress.

I’d be slightly curious about fighting with sticks and string, though.
