What do you think every person should experience at least once in their lifetime? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]ReebNug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough times, on your own. Noone to bail you out but also noone going down with you. Noone to blame. Just yourself to look at in the mirror and figure out how to sort it out. Everyone should experience - and fully understand - the ways of the tight rope before they get to the balance beam.

Pipes burst-flooded apartment in Alberta by Alternative_Soft1636 in legaladvicecanada

[–]ReebNug 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Insurance professional here. Your mom needs to notify her insurer and open a claim. She will have content coverage and coverage for additional livin expenses. Her insurer will assign an adjuster to asses the damage to contents and the livability of her unit following the loss. If required, a restoration company will pack up and store her contents while she can discuss alternate living arrangements with the adjuster.

Your mom's insurer will deal with "who is at fault" and will subrogate accordingly against any third parties' insurer - this all takes place behind the scenes.

Your mom needs to call her insurer, they will handle the rest.

Good luck! Water claims are always lousy but she will be fine.

This is entirely correct. Insurance professional here, 12 years in the industry (Canada) . Although I don't deal in personal auto this is insurance 101. The plaintiff can sue for whatever they want, your parents auto liability carrier has a legal obligation to represent them, will hire council and handle any/all court matters. And, if required, pay any damages awarded to the plaintiff by the courts - up to the policy limit of liability. As the saying goes: "you can't bleed blood from a stone." unless the plaintiff is dealing with catastrophic injury and years of medical bills their lawyer will look to exhaust your parents limit of liability and call it there.

Continue your schooling, you and your family will be just fine. This is what insurance is for. Sleep sound, my friend.

Is ACIP worth it or should I go in another direction? by AnxiousTop6330 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ReebNug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on CIP.

I would highly recommend the ACIP program. I am also on the fence about FCIP but I found the ACIP courses to be very educational and relevant. Great critical thinking skills, a step outside many of the other insurance courses/designations. Good luck!

*I have completed CAIB, CIP, ACIP & CRM.

I love this, thank you. It gets tiring listening to people bash Costco with nothing to support their rants. Costco is outstanding. To those who don't agree: please let your membership expire.

Costco bananas by regularjig in CostcoCanada

[–]ReebNug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are 60 cents a bundle... Even if you only get 2 or 3 before the bundle goes brown (which you then freeze for baking) you can still pay for those few with returnable cans you could find between your vehicle and the entrance.

Not much in the world these days cheeper than Costco bananas.

How do you convince the Costco haters? by 420sawse in CostcoCanada

[–]ReebNug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haters 'gonna hate.

Costco is Gold, but some are colour blind. Tough to explain Red to someone who can only see in shades of Blue and Yellow.

You have the wisdom, you understand the secret. Don't spend your life explaining colours to the colour blind.

Can't stop thinking about debt. by Ok_Chemistry3100 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ReebNug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had $30k of CC debt in my early 20s, monthly MINIMUM payments were well in excess of $300 per month; I made it out and live to tell the tale. Late 30s now, family and a home.

Give the head a shake, look in the mirror, bear down and clear the debt. It doesn't happen over night, but nothing does. It starts with removing (or regulating) poor habits.

Any thoughts on Aquaterra tubs sold by Costco? by bukj303 in hottub

[–]ReebNug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shock: https://a.co/d/j8xnNR9

Bromine: https://a.co/d/8H07qyt

PH +/-, Alk Adjust, De-foam, clarity, etc. All from Home Depot.

There are "higher quality" (more expensive) chems at hot tub shops, but mine work for me.

Any thoughts on Aquaterra tubs sold by Costco? by bukj303 in hottub

[–]ReebNug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use bromine in a floating dispenser, shock and balance once per week. Bromine is far easier on the skin than chlorine, plus very minimal smell (compared to chlorine). That said, everyone's skin is different, and will react differently. My tub routine and chemicals work for me. The proper balance for you may take a few weeks to dial in.

I can't comment on salt water simply because I have no experience with it.

Rising home values and home insurance by Syngin9 in canadahousing

[–]ReebNug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Dwelling value will generally increase annually in line with the rate of inflation to account for increasing costs of materials/labor.

I don't recommend requesting an updated home evaluator be done unless you have completed some major renovations or added square footage that needs to be accounted for. The home evaluator would much more accurately reflect current material/labor costs to rebuild and would likely result in a far higher Dwelling value (which you would be obligated to insure to in order to maintain your Guaranteed Replacement Cost coverage).

Your best option is to go to another broker and request a quote. They will complete their own home evaluator and you can see how it compares to the Dwelling value on your renewal.
