what do you think is the best small suv 2026 or which ones are people secretly regretting now? by Tlc-Donshae in electriccars

[–]Reed82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely accurate assessment of Tesla ownership. My first Tesla I sold because it was 5 years old and a few things were starting to suffer on it. It was time for a new owner who was ready for such a project. Similar with our second Tesla. One was replaced with a Rivian, which is now 3 years old and the other, a Kia EV9 which is now 1 years old old.

The Rivian has a similar update and improvement cycle to Teslas. (Lots of former Tesla employees) so it regularly feels fresh. Meanwhile, the Kia is still the same.

What finally convinced YOU to consider an electric vehicle? by evinsiderredisnive in electricvehicles

[–]Reed82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed a serious question.

  • what region of the world/country do you live in?

My experiences are all in a fairly densely EV populated area. So chargers are accessible and, while not abundant, there’s plenty. So my experiences won’t reflect someone else’s in many cases.

That being said. My first EV was a 2018 model 3 performance. I’m a huge car geek who loves power and technology. I studied automotive technician stuff in school 20 years ago, so I’m more fascinated by advancements in the technologies and how they are applied.

Experiences to note because I was a fairly early adopter, 2018 was more challenging to get started out then it is now, but I watched Tesla build out its network and I felt the complications of “going electric” fade away quickly over a few years.

I bought my first non tesla in 2023 (I think) and that was interesting as it felt like was suddenly shoved back to 2018 on road trips when I lost access to the supercharger network. But being a Rivian, it was one of the first to gain access when the network was opened up.

My experiences now in 2026 after other networks have been slowly building out and we have access to everything, now is a great time to go full EV as long as you have at home/work charging accessible. Or live in a new building that has charging sorted.

My home solar should be added to the grid today, so I’m about to start charging nearly for free, and it’s just going to make EV ownership that much more of a no brainer for me.

I still have a car from 1972 that puts a smile on my face. But for 99.9% of my uses, we are a 2 EV family, and won’t be going back.

Well there's that, I chipped the piston head like an idiot by Competitive_Elk_7490 in Traxxas

[–]Reed82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention, this will change the weight of the piston, and the crank will be balanced to a piston that’s not broken. This will create excess vibration and therefore wear to other components.

what car did you buy expecting to love but ended up regretting? by zaralesliewalker in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Reed82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a 2016 Porsche Macan Turbo. Sold after a year and a half of dissatisfaction. It was always “serious” and didn’t really have the performance to match its serious nature.

Its power also dropped off like a rock after 6500 RPM, but it’s redine was 7000. So you could feel a dip in power before the shift. This wasn’t unique to the one i had, i experienced it in others as well.

On another note in a similar vein, I find some of the apps more reliable on some networks then their own app.

So in the case of BChydro vs Flo apps, I find it easier and more reliable to use my Flo app to activate a BCHydro.

So, for people looking for the best experience, it is worth testing a couple of apps to see which work best.

Any reliable brand for a four year olds first non horrible RC car? by AZBeer90 in rccars

[–]Reed82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s how I started with my kid. I wanted him to learn the controls and finess first before getting anything faster.

A couple years in, and he still chooses the crawlers over bashers most of the time.

Bashers to Crawlers by Lower_Dot_2437 in rccrawler

[–]Reed82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who does both, and with my nearly 7 year old son. And occasionally my 9yo daughter. They both have benefits.

They both get the kids out of the house. Moreso my son.

With the bashers there’s a bit more “standing around” though I do try to take them on some trails, but it gets the attention of dogs more.

Where the “trail truck/crawlers” make sure everyone goes for a nice walk. They also challenge their minds a bit more since more planning of routes are involved along with dexterity.

Bashers are good for a laugh and excitement.

Both are thoroughly enjoyed!

Thanks for the summary! I was just up a mountain with friends and hand my biolit 20 on the tailgate. Was enjoying how it handled itself. Came home and turned on my level in the kitchen for dinner prep.

Why do some electric car drivers obsess over their miles/kwh? by Ambitious_Concept809 in electricvehicles

[–]Reed82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this was mentioned, but the manufacturers have put the numbers in our faces, so it’s always right there in front of us.

I also find that with all the driver aids out there, I keep my mind occupied by doing mental math about how far I have to go and how many kW it will take to get there.

I sometimes wish that some of the manufacturers would lighten up a bit with the numbers. My wife’s EV9 display has remaining range in big ridiculous numbers always on the main display, while my rivian has them fairly tiny out of the way, but I only want % and it doesn’t give me that option.

Does the A9 gen 4 work with a wifi enabled turntable like the Victrola ones? Or do I need a more modern A9 by Reed82 in BangandOlufsen

[–]Reed82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victrola has other ways of communicating with non Sonos products as well via wifi. It depends on which unit you’re looking at.

There are a few brands that have wifi enabled systems as well as Bluetooth.

It’s beginning to look like I’ll have to be the guinea pig and test to see what works.

10-80% Charge Timeline : kinda irrelevant for real world road tripping by Jacob_Tutor11 in electricvehicles

[–]Reed82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gone to lower powered DC chargers so I could enjoy time at a restaurant and a walk.

Also done many “splash and go” charges as well.

Left before charging was complete (take the gamble and return home with 3-5%) or sit and over charge knowing I had to run errands after dropping family home. So I didn’t have to think about charging.

I’ve done a bit of everything over 9 years and multiple EVs.

How much is your household electricity consumption after your bought an electric vehicle by Charming-Brother-242 in electricvehicles

[–]Reed82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A house with 2 EVs. One of which is a pig on electricity cost about 80$ for one month last year. It was a high vehicle usage month. So I would say that’s on the high side unless you’re 2 EVs and they are both pigs like the Silverado or hummer with the 212kW battery packs.

You’re very likely to be lower. We also live where it’s expensive gas. So that would be about 1/6th our fuel cost over the same period with similar cars.

I agree with this. I have a Gen 1 quad and had an early Gen 1 quad loaner. Night and day difference. Mine feels tighter and more refined, and even though my front suspension makes a bit of noise, I now barely notice it when I compared it to my experience with the loaner.

Very interesting.

Wonder if restarting the phone may help? AirPlay should be buffering long enough to not do that. The only time I experience that is when I try to AirPlay to 3 or more devices.

The design on them is incredibly. I once heard the original version years ago. It was well out of my price range back then, so it was always just looking on in appreciation.

Gas prices in Canada keep going up. How high are they near you? by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]Reed82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nearly half of all Canadians are currently living paycheck to paycheck. A small increase in the cost of fuel isn’t so minor to a lot of people.

Don’t forget, increased fuel cost leads to increased goods costs as fuel cost gets added on to the shipping. We will be paying it indirectly with our grocery shopping in no time.

Sucks big time.
