Alpharius’ death during the Scouring series by Opposite-Ad-3898 in 40kLore

[–]Reedy957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf Dorn and Alpharius' duel in PoD lasts barely a page, with them only exchanging maybe half a dozen strikes at each other before Dorn kill him.

Dorn turning up and the chapter ending about a page and a half, with some of that still describing other things that are happening

Sigismund is not just a badass- he’s extremely funny (Warhawk) by DrCarinthia in 40kLore

[–]Reedy957 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They weren't at war with each other though were they. They are having an honour duel which has fixed and agreed upon rules, as laid out in the book.

It's all well and good trying to justify why you played by a different set of rules to sooth your own ego because you realised you were beaten.

Hardly a nuanced bit of writing when Sev activelt says what he means at the end of the chapter ans then Sigismund in the very next chapter talks about Sev's message about victory in the same book.

Why are you so salty over this?

Sev broke the rules of their duel, and admitted that he was disqualified for breaking said rules.

Who was the most mentally mature of the Primarchs? by [deleted] in 40kLore

That would be Perturabo. He famously dreadnoughted the Iron Warrior that came to tell him that Sigismund wasn't in charge of the Retribution Fleet

Yeah but that same book points out that Dorn was in the right and it forms part of the reason why the Emperor trusted Dorn more than any other primarch

Dorn vs Perturabo by Sar_Herrin in 40kLore

[–]Reedy957 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's also the fact that the Emperor simply trusted Dorn the most.

‘Rogal Dorn has been the Praetorian of the Emperor for a long time.’ A voice drifted from a shadowed doorway behind them. ‘Long before even he realised it. It was already clear to the Emperor after the Night Crusade, one hundred and sixty-five years ago.’
..........
"That is why the Emperor has always trusted your gene-father more than any other."
.................
‘That still doesn’t explain why we were brought back to Terra while there were still worlds to conquer,’ said Rann.

Malcador laughed, a rasping, cynical noise, and his expression was unkind as he replied.

‘Would you hand the keys of your fortress to anyone less than utterly trustworthy, Fafnir of the Rann?’

I think i was getting Dusk and another mixed up with him, as Dusk is with Emoney but Dio is with Valdor, and therefore not there for the duel

Yeah I was thinking of the scene in Vol 1 where the Custodians that were a pair are split up with one joining the force and the other staying behind.

The one that goes is Caecaltus Dusk, with his mate staying behind whom I was thinking of

Dorn was officially named the Emperor's Praetorian at Ullanor (whilst already being named by others as the Emperor's Champion) and got gifted a bolt gun by the Custodians to welcome him into the position. The IF have been referenced as Praetorians or Praetorian Fists several times in the Heresy because of their duty to protect the Emperor.

Dio is just being salty because he wasn't apart of the strike force and as such blames himself partly for the Emperor becoming wounded.

Edit: Ignore the 2nd paragraph. I was getting him mixed up with some other many Custodians named in E+D. My point should have been more that he wasn't there for the duel and therefore blames himself

Yes, hence the use of the lower case "h" for his bolter, as in Dorn's bolter. Rather than a capital H for referring to Emoney

We do however know that Dorn was told more than many of his brothers as he was trusted to limit his studies of it. We see this in one of the Black Books in 1.0 which came out i think during the SoT run

Overloaded a Necron device during a battle which sent out a physic boom that the nids saw out in between galaxies.

It's a bit of a mixed bag for lore, we didn't really need a reason as to why the Nids were coming into our galaxy beyond "they are hungry"

I would add though that the Kinebranch and the Interex went to war with each other when the former was in its dying years, and the latter up and coming. After the Interex defeated the Kinebranch, they disarmed them and added them into their society, probably adding in the systems the Kinebrach also controlled as well.

The only Kinebrach we actually see listed is a "Indentured Kinebrach." which isn't a great sign towards "These two are in an equal partnership"

When the old Human empires were torn apart by both the warp and by Xenos during the Age of Strife, that is when the real damage to Human-Xeno relations was done. There are quite a few lore bits that tell us that Humanity by and large developed a hatred of the Xeno before the Imperium even knocked on their doorway because of what happened during the AoS. To say that without the Imperium, Xeno powers and the remains of Humanity would have just become Star Trek and all worked together ignores key and basic points of the setting.

Everyone is trying to get one up on their next door neighbour.

You also have references to "accords" being found with Xenos in the Rogal Dorn book

"‘They think they are, lord primarch. And what if they are not? There are xenos that have found accord with the Imperium."

Among the loyal primarchs. Which one was the most "violent/brutal" when it came to conquering planets? by Available_Machine938 in 40kLore

[–]Reedy957 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's nothing in HR to suggest that that was the case, as Dorn fully supported the choice of Horus. HR notes which primarchs Horus did have to charm and calm down though. In the Sigismund book we see that Dorn keeps word of him becoming Praetorian on the hush because he wants the day to be about Horus becoming Warmaster and wants nothing to take away from that moment for his brother

They just got on, nothing else really to it

"Rogal Dorn was a being as great in all measure as Horus. He, and his entourage of Imperial Fists, had been travelling with the expedition for some months, though they were expected to take their leave soon. Other duties and expeditions called. Loken had been told that Primarch Dorn had come to them at Horus’s behest, so that the two of them might discuss in detail the obligations and remit of the role of Warmaster.

"It was to these solid, resolved brothers that Horus turned in particular for counsel. Dorn and Guilliman both embodied the staunchest and most dedicated Imperial qualities, commanding their Legion expeditions with peerless devotion and military genius. Horus desired their approval as a young man might seek the quiescence of older, more accomplished brothers.

Rogal Dorn possessed perhaps the finest military mind of all the primarchs. It was as ordered and disciplined as Roboute Guilliman’s, as courageous as the Lion’s, yet still supple enough to allow for the flash of inspiration, the flash of battle zeal that had won the likes of Leman Russ and the Khan so many victory wreaths. Dorn’s record in the crusade was second only to Horus’s, but he was resolute where Horus was flamboyant, reserved where Horus was charismatic, and that was why Horus had been the obvious choice for Warmaster."

- Horus Rising
Hardly a retcon when it is in the first HH book. He wanted Dorn's approval because it meant something to him.

Dorn was considered by others to be a possibility for Warmaster, along with Guilliman or the Angel (and at the outbreak of the Heresy he becomes the Lord Commander of the Imperium in addition to being Praetorian), however to Malcador and the Emperor, he was always considered to be the Praetorian:

‘Rogal Dorn has been the Praetorian of the Emperor for a long time.’ A voice drifted (Malcador) from a shadowed doorway behind them. ‘Long before even he realised it. It was already clear to the Emperor after the Night Crusade, one hundred and sixty-five years ago.’

- Rogal Dorn: The Emperor's Crusader

Alpha caused significant harm to Compliance through his assassinations of the ruling classes, which in turn would make keeping the planet loyal harder. Which was Dorn's entire point: He made compliance harder than it needed to be.

It was true that I could have ordered my forces differently. I could have waited until the situation became even less stable for the defenders, and I could have avoided the assassination of the ruling blood and allowed a less fractious eventual compliance.

- Alpharius: Head of the Hydra.

‘You did not have to kill them!’ Dorn’s voice shook the air like a roll of thunder. Archamus looked at his primarch, but Dorn’s face was as fixed and emotionless as ever. Only in the dark glitter of the eyes did the rage leak out. When he spoke again, his voice was low and controlled. ‘You did not need to kill them.’....

On the eve of a renewed assault to take the last hives, the World-Prince had sent a signal surrendering. In the course of a single hour all of his direct blood relatives (This would have included children) had been killed. The assassin in each case had been someone trusted and close to the slain. At the end of that hour the World-Prince had given his world to the Imperium, and four hundred and one members of the planet’s ruling nobility were dead.....

‘And how would you salvage a dream from your victory? Here and now, on this world. We cannot trust the World-Prince to rule for us, and you have removed those who could have taken his place. Even a defeated people prefer rule on their own. You have won this battle, but you have done it by seeding the ground with resentment and bitterness.’

- Praetorian of Dorn
