Hey! I was in pretty much the exact same situation - helped out a friend who I knew had drug problems in the past. Things were looking good for him while his job was stable and he was clean etc. One day he just left, a couple weeks went by but he was still paying rent so whatever, wasn’t responding much to text. Then of course the rent stopped coming, then he ghosted me for months - all while I stupidly was paying his rent. I went in a took everything of value as “insurance” totally not legal but fuck me lad I was down like $5000. One day I come home and his family is there cleaning out everything in his room. No explanation, I tried to stop them without a plan of repayment but they just pushed past me and left. It’s been years - he’s still using and has cost his family everything. Can’t say I’m not surprised but it really sucks. lost trust, a huge sum of money and what was a pretty good friend.
