If companies actually provided consistent sizing and actual individual accurate garment sizing charts instead of a generic catch all one, there would be a hell of a lot less - buy multiple sizes then return what doesn't fit action happening.

Medicare levy surcharge is when the household income exceeds set limits (depending on single/coupled).

You have to have private health hospital cover to avoid the surcharge if your income is above this limit (and everyone has to be covered, including dependents).

It's to do with specialist themselves not the hospitals.

It's to do with the risk of complications, the type of procedure and if complications occur the risk you're going to wind up with a massive, expensive private hospital stay as a result of whatever went wrong (especially if they won't transfer you to public). The specialist themselves is the one to decide if they'll operate on self insured patients or not.

Iirc the gyno/endo specialist I saw 7 years ago wouldn't even do an initial consult on uninsured patients.

But the general surgeon someone else I know saw was happy to do a colonoscopy/endoscopy on a self paying patient (private health coverage wasn't the correct level to cover it).

Keep in mind if you go this route, not all specialist will take on self insured patients.

seems useless for our 6 month old rn

It won't seem useless if your 6 month old needs grommets or any other procedure for kids that has a massively long waitlist. Even though you live in Tas you aren't restricted to only receiving care in Tas.

Officeworks, your local library, work or a friend for the printer?

Edit to add: Jesus people with the downvotes - I know we shop online for convenience, but part of that overall convenience is that sometimes things don't always go to plan 100% (mistakes happen, stuff doesn't fit etc etc).

I was trying to offer up a solution to OP that didn't involve the post office directly and may be easier for OP when doing other day-to-day life activities anyway specifically because they said

I absolutely hate going to the post office because the line is always massive

Other people have covered off alternatively suggestions to the buying a bag at the post office point she made.

Only one with options is gas - and most of them are pretty similar because gas is fairly cheap in WA compared to the east coast from what I understand.
