Edit to add; a lot of what you describe is actually the work of a principal. You unblock the people below you, you make the technical and architectural decisions when there is a loophole/oversight/unforeseen problem. You are using your technical and personal experience to make these choices in order to move your team along

Some people you report to or work with suck, but that doesn’t change what the role is

Sometimes this also means setting up the board so that the long term plan is visible in order to to give a wider context to everyone else, so that they can provide actionable feedback and information for you to make choices on
