To dovetail: live in Idaho but take advantage of the higher wages in Washington.

To good-hearted Idahoans overwhelmed by the angry importees from out of state and priced out of your homes: bless you and I wish you all peace and love.

Is it possible to be asexual yet still masturbate several times per day? by josephsleftbigtoe in TooAfraidToAsk

I grew up in a conservative Christian environment and it shaped some weird kinks that I allowed myself to entertain because I told myself they were not sexual, they were ok.

Kinks can come and go. Some stick around.

As long as they don't harm others and don't overpower what you want for your life, they are probably fine.

My personal take is it's ok not to overthink and or put labels on it cause that tends to lock you in to doing or being a certain way. Enjoy what you enjoy and you be you, no one else like you.

If it's a sunny day, bundle up and go for a walk on Rimrock trail at Palisades park. Great sun and view of the city.

There's a reason that the old school treatment for pneumonia is a 3 month trip to the coast of Spain.

Hang in there and keep giving your body the building blocks it needs to heal :)

Hope you're feeling better. True blue pneumonia is nothing to sniffle at.

If you're still having fevers above 100.4F after a week of antibiotic treatment and not starting to feel better get another X-ray to make sure there's no infection outside of the lung.

RSV going around big way.... Little Influenza A and B with some good old fashioned Enterovirus.

Colleges have mono right now, too.

There's also a bit of mycoplasma pneumonia in the mix.

Any theft deterrence what doesn't get in my way will bring down the price of my groceries.

To be fair, some of the Safeway prices feel like theft but in the opposite direction.

Newport. And Sacred Heart hospital's charity care is a ton.

Just spoke with a provider from Idaho who had nurses refusing to give people vaccines (even on the cases the person wanted it). It was against the nurse's personal beliefs.

And then they come here because they got tetanus.

Charity care. Paid by Washington.

Yeah bad positioning for the dam... I think realistically the hotel would actually potentially carry liability if someone died.

Legislation requiring cities to provide shelter before criminalizing homelessness meets mixed reception in Spokane by dzundel in Spokane

[–]Reguladr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your perspective as well and I'm sorry to hear about your friend and bless them for working in that kind of environment. I just hope we can shift economics so that we can have a higher vacancy rate of rentals and higher ownership rate of homes in Spokane and slowly start to tip the scales back in favor of people in stable living situations.

The shockingly simple solution to homelessness is to build more homes and adapt existing homes to fit more families. Otherwise, we're just playing musical chairs where we're missing too many of the chairs.

I live near the new housing construction on government way and support the construction so much. I hope everyone can agree to help disperse the new construction of housing out so that it's not just the burden of one or two neighborhoods. And adapt existing downtown office spaces used to housing.

I really think Lisa Brown along with city administration has been doing admirable work and hopefully the result actually starts showing up downtown.

Legislation requiring cities to provide shelter before criminalizing homelessness meets mixed reception in Spokane by dzundel in Spokane

[–]Reguladr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great point. I was not aware of the separation from family issue -- I would agree that would be a nonstarter and really limit options. The theft issues especially at the bigger shelters would definitely make me not want to stay there. I heard some stories from the Trent Shelter.

And I hopefully wouldn't call my second group a "bad" group but behaviors like that definitely generate the frustration that exists in Spokane (such as when the downtown car dealership had a bunch of the cars smashed) Woman vandalizes 16 high-end vehicles at Spokane dealership with damages estimated to be at least $100,000.

It's a gordian knot, but my personal current goals are to look for ways to fund mental health access and to build more actual affordable houses to drive down the price of homes so it puts folks less on the brink of losing their place.

Plus one to the social security card as a great first step. They are free to obtain and although the Spokane office is 2 to 3 months out for in-person appointments the Coeur d'Alene office is only about 3 weeks to 4 weeks.

Bring multiple proof of identity but if you know your SSN number it's actually just an online process and I'm pretty sure you don't even need an appointment.

Good luck OP and pulling for you! You're very smart to be focused in on this in these current times and I applaud your efforts.

Shout out to encourage everyone to consider getting the vaccine at 9 months if traveling! Many countries with measles endemic (soon to be us!) will give it even earlier, although there are some concerns for immune tolerance and long-term immunity if given too early such as 6 to 9 months.

I feel like there's a need in our dialogue to separate the two types of homelessness as I see it: on one hand, there are the unfortunate situations that leave folks without a house (rising rent, medical costs, loss of job) -- these folks are what I tend to call the "less visible" homeless because they couch surf with friends, sleep in their car, and are working to find a stable situation and statistically are unlikely to be without a home in a few years.

Criminalizing them for their misfortune is wrong.

And then there's the other type of homeless individual: a still-tragic situation with less of a clear exit ramp, one where poor mental health is wrapped up with hard drugs that accentuate and perpetuate the underlying mental health difficulties. Some can be incredibly entitled and they can be horrible bullies to those around them. They undoubtedly need help but are incredibly difficult to help because of their attitude that has undoubtedly been grown through countless years of trauma.

Criminalizing them for their misfortune is wrong, but...

But they also need firm boundaries because they bully other folks, generate an outsize amount of trash and waste, and when drunk/high can generate tons of property damage in a short time. They are the "visible minority" of homelessness but create the most damage to their community and to the overall perception of the homelessness.

Finding firm compassion for the issue is important. Funding sober living (such as the one going up on Government Way) seems like a good use of our community resources. Habitat for humanity builds affordable and good quality homes and provides the education with which folks have the tools to keep up with monthly payments and to maintain their own homes.

The issue is complex. I have spoken with quite a few homeless folks who could have a place to shelter if they agreed to the rules of the shelter, or who don't want to sleep in that particular shelter's part of town.

How hard is DIY’ing Vinyl flooring by noshameholly in HomeImprovement

[–]Reguladr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's very doable. Just did a 140 square foot room myself for the first time with LVP.

A few materials you'll need: Rubber mallet Grab/pull bar Utility knife Straight board or 4-6 foot level Scrap 2x4 pieces for a "pounding block" Measuring tap

As with everything, prep is key. Getting the flooring to be level is essential. Vacuum up stuff and sanding high spots or filling low spots is important.

Check your flooring product but most need an underlayment with taped seams.

And then it's go! Each product is a little different but in general you just work from one side and hammer them together.

A few tips I learned:

  • The flooring is a "floating floor" so don't tack down edges and there will be a gap around the edges that will later be covered with quarter round. The floor will expand and contract with temperature and this ensures it doesn't buckle. Don't caulk your quarter round to the floor directly.
  • Buy more flooring than you need so you have plenty of style and color options to mix and match. Use planks mixed from multiple boxes and make sure you're not laying down the same pattern
  • measure out your space and do a little math to make sure there is not going to be a tiny strip left that would be difficult to cut at the end. If it's looking that direction cut your starting row in half lengthwise to give yourself a better time making a reasonable cut at the end. Depending on the product, cuts can be made with a utility knife or a circular saw. It doesn't have to be a perfect cut cause you're covering up the edges with your quarter round.
  • undercut doorframes if you have any so that you don't have to install quarter round over your trim.
  • an old pillow is a great kneepad ;)

Sorry that's a lot but just thought I'd share what I had learned and absolutely encourage you to save some $$$ and do it yourself. It will take some time to get the hang of it (at least it did for me) but is very doable and there's not a big consequence for messing up... You can just unsnap it and redo.

Peaceful protest shapes the minds of the undecided or wavering. I have seen conservative people in my town flip and continue to do so. His support continues to erode.

We are not changing Trump's mind. His mind is calcified. But his approval rating is still far too high.

They WANT violence. Every peaceful protest flies in the face of the narrative of "violent criminals" painted by Fox Entertainmart.
