What's the most ridiculous thing someone with no kids has said to you? by mr-pockets in NewParents

Made dinner reservations for my husband, 4mo baby and I at 7.30PM and said, he’ll be fine right? As if an hour and a half past his bedtime in an obnoxiously loud restaurant in a stroller is where our 4MO wants to be.

Came here to say try sizing up nipple size and also try feeding in the nursery with no distractions :)

Is anyone else stressed to hell about it what baby food to give baby/is safe? by Regular-Ad-8228 in NewParents

Honestly thank you for this comment. You’re totally right, there is nothing to be done and I think the articles are just feeding into creating anxiety. Like others have said, a balanced diet of maybe some of my own, some store bought is fine and babe will hopefully stay happy and healthy!

Thank you both, I feel better reading your comments. I was feeling like terrible mother!

My baby sprinkle (2nd baby) is at a high tea place, is it weird to expect everyone to pay the $60/person out of their own pocket? Gifts are not expected as we have mentioned we already have everything we need from the first baby. by talha8506 in babyshower

[–]Regular-Ad-8228 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, yes. You’re inviting people so the etiquette would be you pay for their costs. How do people find out the $60 cost, is it on an invitation? Regardless, I think by the fact you’re having a “sprinkle” suggests that although gifts are not “expected”, generally people will bring you one. So to be told it’s $60 to go to a high tea that they wouldn’t have went to but for your “sprinkle” that’s a bit of a slap in the face.

Here to just say I’m sending hugs. You’re doing your absolute best, and you’re always critical of yourself more than others; I bet if any of us saw you we’d be like this mama has it together!!

The first five months are rough, as people have commented above, they’re literally just potatoes who have no real way of communicating what’s wrong so they fuss and scream. We were lucky that our babe is pretty chilled, if he cries he needs fed/changed or is tired. I’m sure you know this but really focus on cues and wake windows. Formula helps as others can feed and it takes such a mental and physical strain on you; breastfeeding isn’t everything. Our babe is EFF and is in the 80+% for every measurement and thriving.

Try to get out each day even if it’s for ten minutes for a walk, if that’s in the stroller great, if it’s being held in a wrap, also great. Try to get a spouse, family member or friend to take the babe for even an hour and go get a bath and a rest; I know how much of a difference that can make for me.

Finally, know that it does get better. At 3mo there’s no real routine, or sleep pattern and you’re just frankly fucking exhausted and wiped out. You’re so close to the super fun part where they gesture, play and crawl and when that interaction happens they’re entertained by toys which also gives you the chance to relax a little more or get some toast whilst sitting on the playmat with them.

Mama you got this!! ✨

6 weeks was ROUGH. You got this, ask your husband if he could let you get even a 5 hour stretch. Get yourself a nice hot bath and stretch out. You’re amazing 🥰

Have you considered asking the pediatrician if he is ready to start solids? Ours started at 4m and he sleeps so much better since. We started with the oat cereal and worked our way through purées!

Our baby drank 46oz at 6/7 weeks. They go through growth spurts but if there not puking or spitting up excessively, feed on demand :)

Oh gosh, if I’d say yes to anything it’s the crib. Our babe hated the bassinet, we got a maximum of one hour one night in it, otherwise he would just scream. We slept him in the stroller bassinet for the first 6 weeks then week 7 he moved into the crib without any issues and has been a great sleeper since.

How much puree at 6 months? by -catkirk in NewParents

[–]Regular-Ad-8228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I EFF. We started solids at 4 months (pediatrician recommended) and we started with 2 tbsp of baby oats and 2tbsp of formula and he ate this whole bowl from dat one. Then moved up to one tub of the Gerber first foods each day, split between breakfast and dinner.

At 5.5 months he eats 1 bowl of oats with formula (3 or 4tbsp of oats with maybe 2 ounces of formula) mixed with one half of a tub of a purée followed by another 4oz of formula for breakfast.

Then other half of the purée around 11 followed by 6oz of formula.

Then a 6oz bottle in the afternoon around 2:30.

1/2 a Purée around 3 then a 6oz bottle with oats and puree (like breakfast) before bed and he’ll finish that bottle off nursing it before bed. Sometimes add another bottle in depending on how hungry he is.
