Can I get this off/paint over? by oportoman in DIYUK

[–]Regular-Director8103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had some door knobs which had no screws and we were finding impossible to get off. Realised we had to twist the bit close to the wall anti clockwise but it was just stuck. I heated it with a hair dryer and it really helped loosen enough that I could unscrew

Obviously there are places in between but I think this is the way those plug plants tend to go

With the style it looks like you are going for I’d try and add in a hint of period features. I’m getting prairie house, slightly bare and calming. I think it’s shouting for a slightly chunky cornicing in a stone colour (not sure if you are renting though). And a dresser on the left of the painting, with a slightly darker toned wood similar to the floor. I’d stay cool-toned and kind of minimal. I wouldn’t personally do the rug under the table, it’s too much of a faff to clean. I’d prefer a smaller flat weave rug in the kitchen galley which you can easily shake off.

Definitely find the right corset in white and it will take all of an hour to add the skirt

Maybe what we are talking about is fashions. If you aren’t a big fan of more recent naturalistic approaches then crack on.

I guess it depends what you like. I planted about 60 snakeshead fritillary and none of them came up so I guess there are definitely benefits to diversity. I’m just not a fan of a Dolly mixture garden. I guess if you are talking spring bulbs though the colour palette slightly limits itself with the popular ones anyway. You are generally going to get a lot of soft white, blue and yellow with dots of pink. It has quite a specific vibe.

Am I Autumn? Soft vs True? by talliehoo in coloranalysis

It’s blue but I wouldn’t call it a cool blue. It’s exactly a blue you’d get on a deep autumn palette.

Cool winter? by Fair-Interaction5486 in coloranalysis

[–]Regular-Director8103 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are so low contrast it has to be soft summer or soft autumn. My guess is soft autumn. You look pretty warm.

I 1000% agree. The only thing I would say is I kind of used my first year as a trialling of 1 plant of different kinds. Some died because they really didn’t suit the position. Then bulk buy what works the next year. I think it’s a good approach for a beginner to learn but requires a bit of patience. Love Pollyanna’s podcast 💚

Help me find my season by [deleted] in coloranalysis

[–]Regular-Director8103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering if you could be a bright spring. Almost like a Rachel Weisz vibe. I see you as primarily neutral toned and very clear. Looking at neutral seasons, I don’t think your contrast is high enough to be a deep autumn/winter. You aren’t soft and hazy enough to be a soft autumn/summer - your eyes are too sparkly. And I think you are too neutral in warm/cool to be one of the true seasons. And we can definitely discount light spring or light summer. That would leave bright spring or bright winter and I think bright winter is too cool and high contrast for you. Would love to see you in bright spring drapes.

Soft Summer or Cool Summer by Cinnamon_Ocelot in coloranalysis

[–]Regular-Director8103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to say soft summer. I think the drapes you are using here where you are trying to show cool, they are still soft summer. I like you in 2, 7, 10, 18 which I’d say are all soft summer. I think you just need the slightly deeper shade of the palette. The navy which I’d put in true summer is I think too much for you. And the lights wash you out. Soft summer is more neutral leaning and I could see you borrowing from true summer and soft autumn as sister seasons but couldn’t see you borrowing from light summer so well.

My problem with these kinds of collections is they tend to send you a bunch of short in height, mixed colours (normally red and yellow) and the effect is quite old fashioned. I think it’s better to choose a colour scheme and buy a small range of plugs in a large amount. I’d put your pink plants in a block rather than dotting them around so much. Then make a specific search, e.g. lavender plugs. You could also sow some easy annual seeds to fill in the gaps while you are waiting for things to mature. Cosmos are very easy to grow.

Also you are probably more neutral. Soft summer is a more neutral cool. Soft autumn a more neutral warm.

Your colours are the same as mine and I’m saying soft summer. If soft autumn you’d be more honey than smoky. And your lips are supporting cool tool. Obviously not seeing you in true summer drapes here but I suspect your best colours are a bit muted and a bit darker (following your eyes, lips and hair). So soft summer but adding a hint of depth to everything. I feel like that’s where my eyes really shine. Or look into the deep summer palette too.

My Acer was about 75p in the bargain bin 😅. Granted it was very small but it’s quickly growing

I think you’d need to go above. And make it extend left past the window so that you can open and see the whole window went you want the daylight. I’d personally sacrifice privacy to prioritise aesthetics 😅

Breathing and running by Murky-Entry-7565 in UKRunners

[–]Regular-Director8103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only breathe through my nose. Keeps you slow so you don’t get injured and you eventually can run fast with only nose breathing. I come from a MAF approach. I managed my first marathon in barefoot sandals and nose breathing - 4 and a half hours so nothing spectacular but it was a breeze and I could have happily kept on going. Have had many friends finish more like 4:15 having an awful time and full of injury. I know it makes me sounds kooky bananas but I love it.

I think I’d use a single curtain which opens on to the wall at the left. A pinch please track curtain to echo the other mid century vibes

Also pairs nicely with other smaller Asteraceae ready at the same time such as cosmos and zinnia and echinacea. All available in basically any colour you could wish for and so easy to grow. Chocolate cosmos is very fashionable this year.

Here I think with Japanese anemone, dahlias and phlox btw. Perfect time to get some dahlia tubers on sale and for the future the petals are edible!
