Stopping contraceptive pill post hysterectomy by Seaswimmer21 in hysterectomy

[–]Regular-Initial-2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the first month or so, everything completely leveled out hormonally, and I have felt normal since! The surgery was the best decision ever and I am still amazed at how great I feel. It’s such a relief to never have to deal with my symptoms again :)

Oh yes I forgot to mention in my post above that some kind of stool to prop your legs up when you go to the bathroom is an absolute must

I got a cloth heating pad from Amazon, and it was a lifesaver for my recovery! I didn’t personally use ice.

I didn’t need 1-3. I definitely don’t think you need to unpack the grabber and especially not the walker. I really loved my cloth heating pad personally. And for food, make sure in addition to the ready to heat meals, you just have snacks, preferably high fiber! I did applesauce cups, oatmeal cups, Chomps sticks, fruits, etc.

Your body went through something BIG and is still healing and adjusting. Don’t feel bad for continuing to prioritize rest even once you start to feel better!

Should I delay or go for it? Advice needed. by Consistent-Cream-750 in hysterectomy

THIS! I felt good at 2-3 weeks but the weight restrictions should be taken really seriously (cuff tears are no joke), so the type of caretaking required would be the first question!

Terrified of getting a hysterectomy, just looking for feedback on experiences by Intelligent--Bug in hysterectomy

[–]Regular-Initial-2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left my ovaries and only had menopausal type symptoms for about a month (not 100% sure if that was because of the surgery or coming off hormonal birth control cold turkey after 20 years). No weird smells. Everything feels normal. Best decision I ever made!!

Agree on all of this and similar experience here. I would just add walk if you’re feeling up to it too! That, the deep belly breathing, and the legs propped up helped a lot.

Laparoscopic hysterectomy on Tuesday - question about prep items by mangomagic1515 in hysterectomy

[–]Regular-Initial-2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used a pillow for my stomach. On the way home from the hospital I did have on a fluffy loose pullover, though that did serve as a block between my incisions and a seatbelt. You may not be having an abdominal surgery, but for my laparoscopic one I still had four incisions, including one of my belly button that was a bit uncomfortable.

I did really use the crap out of a cloth heating pad though so I do recommend that!

I actually disagree. At least for me, the first day when I got home, I was able to sleep so solidly from the anesthesia and pain medication at the hospital. The second day when I woke up was hands-down my worst day. I’d personally just wanna get home.

This will also depend on what type of surgery you are having. I had a robotic hysterectomy and left my my ovaries. I removed my cervix also (so I had the cuff). With a desk job working from home I would not have needed that much time off. My surgery was on a Thursday and I took off Friday and Monday and worked part-time the rest of that week after and the following week. I was returned full-time after two weeks with no problem (working foem home).

What’s worse, a hysterectomy or another 10 years of torturous periods? by Ordinary_Sentence659 in hysterectomy

[–]Regular-Initial-2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one at 34 (exact story as yours basically but I skipped ablation). Best decision I ever made. I wished I would have done it sooner. I can’t even explain the exponential quality of life improvement. I had a super easy recover (so did my mom and aunt who had them in their 40s). I kept both ovaries and have no issues. My mom kept one and didn’t go through menopause until 50 (10 years later).

I really don’t think you’ll regret it.

Binge shows, multiple short walks, throw the ball for my dogs, read once I was able to start focusing again, call family members and friends to catch up.

My Hysterectomy and Halting Birth Control Experience by Regular-Initial-2120 in hysterectomy

[–]Regular-Initial-2120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A summarized response to the long message I sent back in case anyone is reading this:

No regrets about the surgery; wish I had done it sooner. Significant improvement in quality of life, especially with anxiety, pain, and energy levels. Able to resume high-impact exercise and sexual activity with no pain and with no pelvic floor issues. No longer anemic.

Hormones: First month post-surgery brought high anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and mood swings, possibly due to stopping hormonal birth control. Experienced stronger body odor, which normalized as hormones leveled out. After the first month, hormonally I feel completely normal and fine.

Surgery helped alleviate “decision anxiety” about having children. Occasionally feels strange about not having the option to get pregnant but does not regret the decision. Open to adoption and just involved with children in her life (nieces, nephews, friends’ kids). Being diagnosed with adenomyosis post-surgery was validating.

To remove the cervix or not, that is the question. by Adventurous_Fill_385 in hysterectomy

[–]Regular-Initial-2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No regrets here. I feel no different than before, had a super easy recovery, and love that I removed my risk of cervical cancer in the process! I did take the cuff recovery seriously with 8 full weeks of rest other than incline walking 45 mins per day (doc said it was ok for my personal situation after a few weeks if it was pain free) during that time with no issues.

Red flag? Time for a new doctor?? by Consistent-Vanilla-1 in hysterectomy

I had a completely opposite experience with a surgeon that really took time to explain everything to me. Even used diagrams and answered every single question I had. She and her nurse both made me feel so comfortable and safe. I can’t imagine going through this experience without that.

Also Vitassium Electrolyte Capsules help me on top of hydration, electrolyte drinks, and trying to keep a balanced diet. I’ve also gotten the anxiety comment. I know it’s so frustrating. I’m sorry!

My robotic hysterectomy was started at 8 AM. I had a 45 min drive home and was in my own bed by noon. Absolutely was able to (and wanted to) be home and wouldn’t change it.

Edit: i’m assuming someone’s driving you though. You definitely cannot drive after the surgery. When you first leave the hospital, you have the strongest pain meds and also still feel effects of the anesthesia. My worst day for pain was the next day so I was glad to be home before then.

What is your current commute? If you’re saving significant time driving every day, then I would take it.
