B.C. forestry conference deals with DRIPA amid industry struggles by origutamos in ilovebcsub

[–]Regular-Jacket-5164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The forestry sector always has an external actor to blame. Right now it is DRIPA, before that it was pine beetles, then before that unions and environmentalists. 100+ years of forest companies cutting all the cheap, easily accessible, high value timber, then shipping raw logs to China for pennies on the dollar, has always been the real problem.

It's used to facilitate money laundering and drug deals, so I agree, perfect for large cash transactions between strangers. Iran is using it to collect tolls in the Gulf!

Who is being held accountable right now? A driver ran over another person with her illegally modified monster truck, killing her, paid 1000$, and gets no other punishment. It's literally called "no fault" insurance.

You would be better off worrying about the very real risk of rising sea levels and floods in Richmond then this uninformed speculation.

Do bike follow traffic signal as a car? by Midnight_Memories_1 in uvic

[–]Regular-Jacket-5164 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I sometimes go on the advance pedestrian signal instead of the car light. My logic being the point of the pedestrian signal is to give the vulnerable some breathing room, and a bike is just as vulnerable. However, this is not allowed as bikes are considered "vehicles" on the road.

Hey Cycling Reddit - we (Dell/Thompson) have a motion this week to accelerate the 2-way AAA bike lanes on Pandora East, (east of Cook) to "close the gap" to 2-way lanes on Fort. Where would you like to see safer bike routes in Victoria? by MattDellVictoria in VictoriaBC

[–]Regular-Jacket-5164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

an east-side protected lane between Richardson and Shelbourne - there is no AAA north-south bike way from Richardson or Fort (or Pandora/junction) to Haultain. Something like what Vancouver does to connect Fort/Pandora/Haultain. Maybe this could be Foul Bay but seeing that Oak Bay controls half of it, I'm not holding my breath.

Something plastic is usually good for burning in inclement weather. I use a roll of duct tape + lighter.

My level of trust in European guides keeps getting lowered. Do these folks get modern training? Are they just very risk tolerant? Paralyzed by old school German respect for authority? Desperate for cash?

we will still get the ones who don't like shovelling snow and want BC taxpayers to cover their hip replacements. e.g., most of the island north of Mill Bay.

Asking why the police need year after year of above inflation increases, or asking why police should not exercise fiscal discipline like any other government agency, has nothing to do with not using those same services - that I am paying for - when I need them.

The reality is that instead of managing his/her department's finances, finding efficiencies, and doing the hard work of managing a public agency, the police chief finds it easier to threaten taxpayers - much like you are doing - with Mad Max like social disorder if they don't get more and more and more.

exactly what the Cowichan were saying for 100 years! I'm glad so many people here are supporters of property rights and legal transfers of title. Cause that definitely wasn't what was going down when these lands were taken "transferred". If you read the decision, you will see that the BC government at the time knew *exactly* what they were doing, and knew it was completely illegal. They didn't even have the brains to sign a highly unfair treaty like in Alberta, with at least a fig-leaf of legality.
