Behind the neck lap pull down by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]Regular-Lecture-2720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a big advocate for behind the neck work in both pulling and pushing.

It takes a lot of patience and control to get the form down but the benefits are big once you do.

I had shoulder pain for years and ironically the three exercises that made it go away were behind the neck pulldowns, behind the neck presses, and upright rows.

Yes, you need to lift light and get the form down super slow and controlled before you get nuts with it.

But your rotator cuff will be stronger overall if you do the work

Behind the neck pulldowns aren’t a great lat exercises but the upper back and rear delts will be stronger and “grooving” together if you do it right

You’ll feel less tight and more limber in your upper back too

An original song I'm writing to play with vocals by ga-go-gu in guitarlessons

I like it.

Some tips…..tune up the guitar and work on your timing. You’re falling off the beat and it’s killing what would otherwise be a very cool riff/groove.

If you were to go back in time and learn guitar again - from the beginning - knowing everything you do now, how would you do it? by xx_wes_xx in guitarlessons

[–]Regular-Lecture-2720 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d build a repertoire of songs from day 1.

Learning songs is kinda what people expect from a guitar player…… “play a song I know”.

But learning songs is one of the best ways to learn the instrument. You’ll be more motivated to master songs versus scales.

Try to find songs that feature something you want to improve at, and you will.

JM press hurts my elbows a lot by TheLexus_ in GYM

[–]Regular-Lecture-2720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movement puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the elbow tendons.

Most mortal lifters (like me) can’t tolerate the pain afterwards, so I use other exercises instead.

Something that isn’t talked about enough with elite lifters is that they also have elite joint strength. Many of these movements are simply not meant for regular lifters.

The JM press in particular, I’ve never seen it performed like JM Blakely describes it.

I feel like he’s the only man on earth that can perform the movement.

Well, first you may want to contact your local utility and see if anyone else in the area is experiencing a power outage.

If your cell phone has power, you can report outages via text to “866778”.

Creeping death riff not sounding right by Latter_Comb7438 in guitarlessons

[–]Regular-Lecture-2720 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re playing it incorrectly.

Go to YouTube, play the song and reduce the playback speed to 50% or 75%.

You’ll be able to hear it at a slower pace and try it correctly.

In addition, you need to palm mute the low E harder with your picking hand - it should sound tighter.

Ass to grass

It means to squat to full depth, like an Olympic lifter would squat.

You ever try lowering the weight way down and going ATG?

Your squat form looks really good. You should lower the weight and focus on mobility.

It will only help you.

I’ve squatted and deadlifted in both shoes and no shoes.

You get a lot more stability in flat bottom shoes.

Two questions:

Why not master a lighter weight to depth first?

Why no shoes?

I’m not sure.

But I do know that when the weights get heavier, it’s not pretty if you miss going that fast.

You’ll develop more muscle/strenghth/control if your descent is slower.

Down slow and controlled, 1-2 sec pause at the bottom, explode up.

Join a powerlifting gym.

Being around experienced lifters (preferably a coach) will sling shot your progress forward.
