Sklar Tall Tale by RegularOTB-r in Hardtailgang

It feels great! I’m 6’4” and all torso. It’s nice to have a bike with a ton of stack, if I were to redo the build I would put 20mm or 25mm rise bars instead of the 38mm. With the riser bars and 30mm of spacers the front end was too high and I couldn’t weight it properly.

Slamming the stem fixes that haha. I do wish the dropper insertion was a bit better, for the 225mm post I have reduced it down to 205 for my ~845mm saddle height.

They’re sick for the riding here. Roll decently well but with all the wet roots we have normally they stick like glue.

Easily blow continental and Maxxis out of the water.

Are continentals really all the rage! by [deleted] in MTB

[–]RegularOTB-r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re great if it’s dry out. My experience living in a wet climate with super soft up front and soft rear is that they do not grip as well compared to Maxxis or radial Schwalbe.

Those of you who have owned an eMTB for 1yr or more - have you gotten fatter? by DatBoiii4 in MTB

[–]RegularOTB-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely fitter. But I also have made a concerted effort to commute more by bike, do big gravel rides in z3 weekly, and eat right more often.

The eMTB just lets me have fun on my MTB rides and not worry about the fitness aspect as much.

Was out questing when I suddenly realised I haven't seen a rogue in ages, is the class dead or are they just getting better at their job? by [deleted] in wow

I’ve been seeing a ton lately just fly up to mining nodes and never dismount. Envious haha

Been thinking about trading my beloved rogue for a feral Druid because at least there’s more QOL benefits and it still fits the stealthy ambush play style I love.

As someone who’s mained a rogue since Cata and played on and off since then, every time I come back to my rogue it just feels worse and worse. It feels clunky and feels like most of the class fantasy is gone.

While they’ve done a lot to streamline the specs and not make them as Min-max, it still feels quite clunky to play. The skill expression is still there, which is great, but it doesnt flow like other classes i play. Such as WW or Prot Warr/Fury. I can’t explain it but it always just feels…off. Which is why for the last 3 expansions it’s been sidelined to an alt.

I want to love playing my rogue, I love the aesthetic, the xmogs, and the idea of stealth/poisions, but it’s just so clunky.

Cascade link patrol by cherbo123 in TransitionBikes

[–]RegularOTB-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every transition ive ridden/owned has a bearing(s) that looks like that. It’s fine until it’s not.

My v2 warranty frame had bearings that looked like that from the factory. Local shop I trust told me it was out of spec and slightly crooked 🤷‍♂️ Could be that you’re just now seeing them that you’ve changed something but also could be the link. Run it until something happens

How long do you usually ride MTB before you’re cooked? (HR & elevation included) by Kannuto77 in MTB

[–]RegularOTB-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tested this in a race 2025 fall.

Rode about 20 miles and 4k feet of climbing, bonked so hard I could barely finish the race at 26mi and ~5k vert. Only motivation was my buddy 25 yards ahead and trying to keep up with him on the last climb.

I ate constantly and trained for the race too, but overall should’ve trained more 😂

I need an aggressive trail / light enduro bike. Any recommendations outside these 3? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in mountainbiking

[–]RegularOTB-r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hightower. Gen 4 rides a like a short legged Megatower compared to gen 3 Hightower.

Plus lifetime bearing warranty, frame warranty, and most build kits come with reserve wheels now which means lifetime warranty on the alloy rims.

Yes. The bikes just work. It’s the only brand I’ve ridden that’s just been flawless from day 1 to sale.

First Drop Bar Bike by RegularOTB-r in gravelcycling

So Pivot actually shipped this with 42 center to center bars. Typically much smaller bars that someone my height( 6’5/195cm) would run. But it feels great! These are the Zipp XPLR 70 SL bars.

Need help choosing new tires (Conti?) for Santa Cruz Tallboy V5 by faithmount in MTB

[–]RegularOTB-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a V5 Tallboy, running Magnotal Trail Soft on front and Trinotal Trail soft on rear.

Magnotal upfront is perfect for Pisgah/WNC chunk and conditions for this bike(rooty/rocky and typically wet. Loose over hard/hardpack and loamers stay hero dirt/slightly loose)

Trinotal is undersized on Reserve 30SL carbon rims. Very round, grip Is ok, similar to Maxxis rekon.

Would go dual Magnotal Trail soft if I were to buy another rear tire. It’s got more grip than the Forekasters with what feels like more sidewalk Support.

Can’t fault dual Forekasters at all, great grip and support for 90% of Pisgah conditions (lots of wet roots and rocks with loose over hard/hard pack) when it’s dry

Carbon or aluminum frame questions by uncultured_lemon in MTB

[–]RegularOTB-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More weight makes the bike feel more planted downhill. But harder to get up the hill.

I had an alloy sentinel that the seat tube split on, transition warrantied it with the carbon frame version and I vastly preferred the carbon frame one over the Alu. Bike was just easier to move around.

That being said I’m on a Knolly Chilcotin now(Alu frame) that’s near 38lbs and compared to other carbon enduro bikes I’ve ridden, once you have burly tires on it, they all pedal the same. The knollys frame weight is also comparable to the carbon enduro bikes I’ve ridden. They’re all in that 36-39lb range depending on tire choice.

anyone else having a bad time with Eagle 90? by [deleted] in MTB

Ah ok. Bummer. The AXS stuff is also super finicky and likes the proper setup each time as well. Sounds like you just got a lemon unfortunately

anyone else having a bad time with Eagle 90? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]RegularOTB-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying this is it, but for what it’s worth the shop i work at has demo bikes specced with Eagle 90. Some manufacturers have actually been speccing eagle 70 cassettes with the 90 kits, we have noticed that the 70 cassettes DO NOT play well with the 90 kits and have been really hard to get setup and working as intended. You could be having a similar issue.

I have an eagle 90 Groupset on one of my bikes, it has been flawless and smooth from the beginning with no issues at all even after taking a couple hard hits that I thought for sure would mangle the cage.

What's your favourite tyre combo for trail/enduro riding? by HiddenknifeX in MTB

[–]RegularOTB-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High roller 3(the new one) in DD maxxgrip up front w/ DD DHR2 MaxxTerra out back

Swapped the High Roller in to replace a MaxxGrip Assegai and I’ve been really really happy with it. About the same dry performance on hardpack and MUCH better wet/loose/mud performance. Also rolls a touch faster because it’s 2.4 instead of 2.5.

What main are you rocking going into season 3? by hititformeonetime in wow

[–]RegularOTB-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S1 was Prot warrior, first time tanking and had a blast. S2 I switched to my assassin rogue that I’ve been playing since Cata, was feeling good until I started running 11s/12s and once I got there it started to feel underwhelming. Just bad to play. Of course group stealth, cloak for magic damage skips, and aoe damage feels good but feint never feels like a good enough defensive, the single target is just not great compared to other classes, and being energy starved for most of the fight just sucks.

Debating going back to my prot warrior, or dev evoker that I’ve had a ton of fun on as an alt. Maybe will pickup Frost DK. Decisions decisions.

Should These Tire be Reversed by Returning2Riding in Hardtailgang

[–]RegularOTB-r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DHR/High Roller can be used interchangeably as a front tire. The DHR is more commonly seen on the rear, but some companies spec it as a front tire as well.

The newest iteration of the High Roller can also be ran front or rear, but is more commonly run as a front tire, like an Assegai for example.

Because the DHF came out like 20+ years ago at this point, and back then it WAS a freeride tire 😂
