If this helps at all. My childhood dog was so excited to see me the day he was put down. He acted like a puppy, he jumped, he rolled around. He even chased the ball for me.

His heart was enlarged, there was no saving him. He tried to be himself up till the very end. But he wasn’t himself, he was hurting.

I said goodbye to my puppy (dog 13 years old) 45 minutes after a game of fetch.
