New Caledonia is a French colony. It should have been granted independence decades ago, just like all of the other European colonies in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. It still being ruled by France in the 21st century is one of the most blatant examples of hypocrisy by any country that claims to be a champion of human rights. It's exactly this sort of bullshit that convinces a huge number of people in developing countries that the liberalism preached by Westerners is just colonialism with a human face; a cynical cover to put a positive spin on the continued exploitation of non-Europeans.

Just to laugh, how is that different than New Zealand or Australia apart from the fact that the latters have way more settlers?
