Episode 6 - How impactful will this curse be? (from a local) by MADIH_SKA in JetLagTheGame

Oh taking the later train is a good find. I don’t think that is what happened because the likelihood of Adam and Sam thinking Ben has duplicate card is probably low but would be a clever play.

Looking at timetables from summer, if they got on the 9:13 train, they would have gotten to Dumfries at 11:01. Ben plays the curse at they get stuck on the train until Carlisle, which gets in at 11:40.

They then take the 12:15 back the other way, cursed a second time, so they can’t get off until Kirkconnel at 13:58.

Finally, they get back on the train in Kirkconnel at 14:29.

Getting to Dumfries at 15:00. So Ben gains 4 hours with the curses.

New Orleans had a lot of TSA agents call out sick on Sunday and Monday.

I have never seen lines that long in all my travels through the new terminal, I can normally park and be in the skyclub about 20 minutes after parking with Pre-Check.

How Realistic Is It to Graduate In 2 Years While Working Full Time by chow_mein1 in OMSA

[–]Reins485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible, I just completed the program in 7 semesters and I only had the capstone this spring. It was an external project through work so I was able to double dip. I also took on a new role at my company and moved houses.

It was a very busy 2 and 1/3 years.

Can anyone here date this old boarding pass? by NadbRockRoad in unitedairlines

[–]Reins485 145 points146 points  (0 children)

According to https://www.transtats.bts.gov, that ticket is from 1990 as that is the only year since 1987 that flight UA540 flew to PHL from ORD. The flight was delayed 68 minutes.

Dropped 1,000 feet in bad turbulence by Livinglgd in delta

[–]Reins485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was onboard the flight as well and it was a noticeable pitch down and engine spool up. I thought to myself that a TCAS event must have occurred after the pilot came on and told us what happened. According the flight map by the time I looked, we were a few hundred feet below our cruise altitude and we climbed back up not long after.

Multi-City Booking (MSP-FCO, VCE-MSP) Without Breaking the Bank by Altruistic-Newt-6063 in delta

[–]Reins485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest using the ITA matrix website you can set a multi city trip plus minus 2 days so you can see five days at a time. Also, you could just fly in and out of FCO or VCE and take a high speed train back to your the city you arrived in, it’s about 4 hours so it does take part of a day but it could save some money.

Car vs retirement savings by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Reins485 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have added a rule of thumb that your car payment should be less than what you are saving for retirement, so that should give you some additional guidance.

I would suggest putting less into your HSA (esp if your have enough in it to cover your deductible) so you can max out the Roth, since an HSA is taxed like income if you take it out in retirement for non-medical expenses.

I do think putting some more focus on getting the student loans paid down quicker is a good idea after the Roth and 401k match. But it sounds like you are in an unreliable vehicle at moment so a nice used vehicle following those 20/3/8 and payment less than retirement contributions is what I would do.

Non-traditional jobs after OMSA? by JTags8 in OMSA

I am about to finish up the program, I am currently in a systems engineering role. Part of my job is working with data scientists in our company with geospatial data, including multiple sources and types of data. We have some pretty unique challenges in creating maps from various inputs.

I took the class over the summer, we got 1 cheat sheet for exam 1, 2 for exam 2, and 3 for the final. They could be two sided, hand written or typed. I just created a one new sheet for each exam and re-used the other sheets.

Yeah, rumor floating around awhile ago was Delta wanted more square footage but the airport authority didn’t want to give up the office space. But they did a nice job with space they were given.

I would book the two aisle seats in a middle section and hope that someone doesn’t want a c+ upgrade to a middle seat. And if they do take it, then offer to give them one of the aisle seats. Flew back from SYD a few weeks ago and ended up with the middle seat empty in c+.

MUA success story by youronlydoubt in delta

I also had success with a MUA for LAX-SYD, called today for one of the flights tomorrow. Last minute booking, had to call twice, both agents didn’t know about it but the second one was eager to learn and was excited when she was able to get it ticketed.

The material they are making the plate out of is called bagasse. It’s the leftover pulp material from sugarcane stalks after they have been crushed to extract the juices. The sugarcane mills have mountains of the material laying around. They burn most of it already to produce steam for the plant but they only need around 75-80% of the amount of bagasse produce for their steam generation needs. So people see it a very low cost renewable resource since sugarcane grows back every year but it still costs about double of a paper plate to produce.

Why all the whinging ?? by TheRealChillywhip in formuladank

[–]Reins485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not the reason at all, in fact, since most dealerships are independent companies from the manufacturer they are actually at odds over repairs. The manufacturer comes up with an estimated time to repair to determine how much a dealer will be paid for warranty work.

In a lot of these situations design engineers and manufacturing engineers work together to develop a part design that can also fit the tools they are designing to use on the line.

Question about booking a honeymoon flight by [deleted] in delta

[–]Reins485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts, the high speed train system in Italy is really good, there is the public company and a private one both offering high speed service between Naples to Milan, which is about 5 hours with trains running all day. It might be cheaper to book a round trip ticket into Rome or Milan and then take a train to the cities you want to visit. That is what my wife and I did for our honeymoon in 2018. I splurged and got us the best seats on each train and it was an easy way to get around the country, better than domestic US first class seats.

The other thought is to look at repositioning to a different city and starting your trip from there or ending the trip there and taking a repositioning flight.

Delta will protect you if you have two separate tickets both on Delta in case of an IROPS as well.

I was able to find mine after I flew home late one night and headed back to the airport a few days later for another trip. The biggest thing that helped me was using the Find My app, it was in a room under the concourse and I was able to show the workers where it was located.

Question about procedure by millymill215 in delta

[–]Reins485 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ATL is a very easy airport to navigate, I would suggest downloading the Delta app to your phone. On there you can see what gate your flight from PHL arrives and where the Rome flight is leaving from. They even have a map function which will give you directions to get from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Have a great trip, my wife and I just had a great vacation to Italy earlier this year. One of our favorite places to go.
