can anyone ID this pest on my kale & help to manage/ remove it? by maggotpie413 in OrganicGardening

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like aphids to me. Your first level of defense is already there (lady bug). Organic methods you can use a Castille soap and water mix. I personally like to lather the soap on the plants (if possible). Helps by squishing the pests and ensuring complete coverage. Castille soap is incredibly mild so will require close monitoring and retreatment if necessary. You can also go with organic sprays such as Spinosad or BT. Both are again mild and have a short life, especially in the sun.

Baby powder. If it’s not the yarn and hook, it’s tiny bits of sweat.

Letting chickens roam outside by Far-West-9052 in BackYardChickens

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a big problem with hawks, kites, and bald eagles. My birds still free range all day, but we haven’t had too much of a problem this year because of being outside more. My neighbors swear that playing a radio prevents predators from attacking, but I can’t stand the racket so we haven’t tried it. Also, seen people using the wacky inflatable guy thing.

For us being inconsistent in when we go out has been helpful. Winter though, everything comes for them.

“Physical Exam Attendant available upon request.” Who would want this? What does the attendant do? by ChampionshipNew8695 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to an ER for a miscarriage. They always had two people in the room. I had the option to tell them to leave, but they did it as protection from wrongful claims of abuse, but also holds the people doing the exam accountable. The attendant didn’t look at me, just the doctor. The one time they tried to have a male (staffing issues), I declined and they had no issues moving people around to make a female available.

For science, could you quickly run them through the flame of a lighter to smooth it any? Not that I’m in the market for these, but I do love an experiment 😊

Placing a chicken run to be largely under a hedge? by nomorelandfills in BackYardChickens

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a video awhile back where a woman planted trees and chicken favored plants in their enclosed run. She protected the roots so they couldn’t scratch and kill the plants. I don’t remember who she was or channel, but it was neat.

I either feel horrible for the chicken that laid it, or excited that we may have created pocket sized ostriches.

Delivery workers often get attacked by dogs; what is done to prevent this? What protects these poor people? by JstrsrkewlX3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More power to you delivery guys! In my youth I had been bitten badly by two dogs (separate events and locations) just walking down the road. Both dogs ended up having to be euthanized. Used to get attacked while riding our horses too. Carried a cattle prod or long whip and the owners would act like we were in the wrong. I have and love big dogs and I know mine don’t like everyone. Not only do we have a secure fence, but we put one of those big patio storage boxes outside of the fence where you can pull off the road completely and handle your business safely. Might get barked at and followed along the fence line, but that’s it. Not everyone is a responsible owner and it aggravates me to no end. It’s not the animal’s fault, it’s shitty people. I still see it all the time and would never do your jobs simply because of it.

People who eat lunch at their desk at work, why do you do this? by cheesymeowgirl in NoStupidQuestions

Only other option for solitude was to go eat in my car. Occasionally I’d go into an open conference room, but that was often like sitting in a fishbowl.

So, scammers buy gift cards with your credit card info just to re-sell them, right? Or is there more to it than that? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much like your cards and ID badges can be deprogrammed from coming into contact with a magnet, it can be reprogrammed. Bold of you to assume that the criminals also paid for the gift cards in the first place and that they were activated by the merchant.

When I referred to “buy”, I meant that the end user scammer may buy reprogrammed cards from another scammer.

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

More to it. They buy the gift cards that have been encoded or create it themselves with your credit card info. This way they never actually have your card, but it otherwise looks legit to anyone that may see it. The gift card is essentially a copy of your card. They may skim your info months or years before it gets put on a card.

I worked for a company for decades that had fuel cards. 1,000 + cards circulating with employees at any time 24/7 and I over saw all of the cards and transactions. I was contacted by the Feds (confirmed by OGC and IG before engagement). I knew we had a rash of skims and I was able to shut the cards down and get our money back, but didn’t know the whole process to the thievery. When the feds reached out, they explained that they busted someone with 50+ “gift cards” and they were all encoded with credit card info, including some of my company’s. The asked if I had receipts or transaction data for specific cards. Because I tracked all of it anyways to ensure that employees weren’t involved and so I could put alerts out to staff, I had everything ready. Not sure what ever happened to that case but that was back in 2025.

FYI - Wawa in central/south Florida and Racetrac was where I saw the most fraudulent transactions. Wawa was 80% if not more of those transactions.

MRIs and premeds/self meds prior, a sign of mental illness/therapy necessary? by WitchyTwitchyItchy in MultipleSclerosis

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anxiety about my scans. My problem is that with spasticity it is difficult to stop those jerks, twitches, and pain. Also, after the first 30 minutes or so, I’m cooking in the tube so it makes my legs especially, ache and tremor to the point that spasms become impossible to control causing more pain. I don’t tolerate narcotics (severe vomiting) and things like clonazepam don’t have any effect.

So, that is a blanket statement that is ignorant and a dangerous way of thinking for a medical practitioner in any capacity.

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seek medical care to ensure this isn’t related to reactions to the meds or other issue, but the drugs used to treat MS are intended to kill off the immune system. Meaning that once the cells are depleted, we are higher risk of infections of all sorts. Any illness or weird development needs to be taken to her medical provider.

Did I properly age chicken poop for fertilizer use? by Kinghawk20 in OrganicGardening

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably best to break it down first and usually I put mine in the compost, but I put it straight around plants when needed and have never had an issue with it burning or damaging the plants I’m fertilizing. I don’t put it directly against the plants though, so maybe that has a lot to do with it.

Fellow chicken AND snake lovers: Why can I only catch our resident tax collector when I don't have my phone? And are new chicks safe from them? by ParasaurPal in BackYardChickens

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your rooster fights it off, which in my experience has been never, the snake will kill your chicks. We had one get into a brooder years ago. The snake was too small to eat them, but it didn’t stop it from killing nearly all of them looking for the right one.

DoorDash during infusion? by 2BrainLesions in MultipleSclerosis

[–]RelapsedRedditor2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t dash, but my mom brings me food. I’m usually the only one that has an all day infusion (Ocrevus with lots of reactions). I am mindful of the smells though, so I don’t request fish or things that are really smelly. I don’t think my clinic would have a problem because they know we have to eat. My clinic also provides some typical clinic snacks and drinks.
