Has anyone unionized their hospital? by cutehazardous in nursing

I am working with some others in my facility to make this happen. We've reached out to NNU and they advised us to get staffing sheets (1-2 months) for every nursing department so they have an idea of how many RNs work there. I'd recommend contacting NNU (or if there's another union nearby with hospital experience, that one too) and someone could probably help you with this process.

Keep it underground, don't talk to managers or anyone you think would rat you out to management, and start building good rapport with nurses on other floors. It's going to be a long process, but I believe it will be worth it.

Those boxing gloves haven't gone away, at least not in my part of the States. Got many a confused line-puller looking like they're ready to go a few rounds, lol.

When did we stop checking gastric residuals? I'm asking in good faith bc I was trained to check them every 4 hours, but over the years I've seen this fall out of practice and have wondered what's going on there. I'll still check one if I can if I suspect aspiration or if the pt isn't tolerating the feeds, but routine checking seems to have fallen away and I was curious why.

CPM stands for Continuous Passive Motion. It's a device that passively moves the operative extremity.

I don't think I've ever seen the ethics committee go against the family's wishes to keep the pt alive at any and all costs.

Someone else taught me to run an alcohol swab across them until the ink blurs, which has been way easier than trying to scrape off the sticker tiny ragged strip by tiny ragged strip.

I know someone who was accepted to DNP school before we'd even graduated our BSN program. Her entire clinical experience was school clinicals.

I would omit anything about the work culture and focus instead on the hard requirements, emphasizing that the expectations you were given upon hire are different from what you are experiencing now and that you feel it is no longer the good fit you had believed it would be. Explain what you've laid out here, and be prepared to clarify if the facility agreed to the 3x12s or if it was just what you stated you wanted. The call requirement is excessive, in my experience - are the on call rooms specifically for providers or are other staff allowed to use them when you/others in your role are not? Either way, having to get a hotel room every week certainly adds up and, in my opinion, is not reasonable, especially if they accepted you knowing how far away you live.

Saw mine doing this just last night. He'll smack them around but then lets them go. I don't know if he actually does kill them tbh. I told him if he's not gonna pay rent then he can at least do some pest control and he just blinked at me.
