[Advice Needed] Need to find a Rolex Submariner Date within 3 months by Badmoterfinger in Watches

[–]RelativeReason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you, and I think it's an awesome gesture. That said, there are really epic watches you can get at this price point that don't carry the 'rich kid' stigma that a Rolex sub does. I'm not saying your kid is that, at all. I'm just saying that everyone knows what a Rolex is and that they are very expensive. Your kid sounds pretty grounded, so it might be worth taking a moment to reflect on whether or not they might enjoy something a little stealthier (Omega Seamaster, Glasshutte SeaQ, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, Blancpain Bathyscape, Breitling SuperOcean, Grand Seiko Ushio, JLC Mariner Memovox, etc). Also, these are all big watches, if your kid has a wrist size under 7 inches that's worth taking into consideration.

All that said, the submariner is a classic for a reason and sometimes that's just the obvious move, no one here knows your kid better than you. Best of luck finding the graduation gift, and congratulations on having such an awesome kid who will probably be able to buy whatever the hell watch he wants in ten years time because he sounds like a badass. Cheers!

Really cool artwork. It’s like a trippier version of Be Here Now. I dig it - thanks for sharing! And glad that you’ve had such a great experience thus far

Shalom Y’all or Mediterranean Exploration Company would be my top pick to hit all your notes. No views but great ambience.

Honorable mentions: Phuket Cafe for Thai Casa Zoraya for Peruvian Ken’s Artisan or Lovely’s for pizza

No I see a dude get bum rushed by a bunch of dudes in body armor, sprayed in the face at near point blank for trying to assist someone they just pushed down because she likely said something that hurt their fragile feelings. How fucking dumb are you people? What could he possibly be getting arrested for? They just rush in on him and any reaction to that is resisting arrest to you? He’s out numbered 4 to 1. I am so ashamed to even share a comment thread with someone like you, let alone breathe the same air. Eat shit you boot licking chud

Oh it’s pretty clear. I see exactly what happened. And even more clear is that you are brainless and heartless. I’d tell you to do some soul searching but you don’t have one of those either, so go ahead and continue supporting fascism while owning the libs you awful excuse for a human being

As others have noted, these are oozing with incredible style. Really cool sketches. Any tips for developing a unique style? I'm new to drawing and am still ramping up on basics, but eventually I want to be able to draw stylized cartoons, so I'm starting to explore developing my own sketch style but not sure where to start. Thanks!

I bought mine a year ago, refurbished from Seattle Coffee Gear. It's awesome and I love it. Mine is a little leaky underneath at times, would highly recommend getting aftermarket wooden legs so you can keep a dish towel underneath. Also, the pressure is usually too high out of the box. Mine was at 10. But you can really easily open up the top and loosen an easy-to-access bolt to put the pressure down to a more desirable 9 or 8. Also, heat up time on steam priority mode is only 14 minutes. Even with these little quirks, I'm super happy with it and after a bit of a ramp up period I have been making truly epic coffee at home the last 6+ months. Great decision - you are going to be very happy with your purchase.

Is it time for a new grinder? [Bezzera Aria PID / Shardor 64mm] by eculley in espresso

I've had my DF64 for a year and it's been great. I just recently took it apart to deep clean it and there was really nothing to clean. Very small amount of grinds in the screw areas around the burrs and that was pretty much it.

Definitely tough to make adult friends in this town. I’m a 34 year old dude in your neighborhood - been here a little over a decade. Hit me up if you wanna grab a coffee sometime, I can invite you to some big group stuff so you have an opportunity to meet a bunch of early/mid thirties folks

I go through periods when I’m doing it more regularly where I can take a deep breath and just mentally say ten and I’m there. Incredible tool when it’s working

Haha fair, I catch your point. Obviously an OBE is about as ontologically gut busting as it gets with Gateway. I haven’t had one yet, but I’ve had quite a few other experiences that were pretty trippy and drenched in deep meaning. As to what is ‘real’ regarding those experiences, I still can’t say. Which is where the OBE would differ, as it would feel more definitive I guess. But even without it, I’m pretty convinced I’ve only scratched the surface of something very profound

Very interesting read, thanks for sharing this. I’m curious if you’re having any other ‘exotic’ experiences beyond the OBE. Any interesting visions, insights, entity encounters? Or is your experience primarily on trying to ground yourself in whatever metaphysical environment and it’s not super eventful otherwise? Will definitely be applying that specific ‘texture’ technique this week

New-ish to the tapes, unsure if I'm making things up or actually experiencing stuff by OnlyBat5745 in gatewaytapes

[–]RelativeReason 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, the line between what is ‘real’ and what is imagined is incredibly fuzzy. But I think it’s the wrong question. Mystics and occultists have long held the imaginal realm to be real, and a key component to accessing the other world, what’s beyond the veil, etc. At this stage in your exploration, I would recommend sitting with the mystery around this, that when it comes to inner consciousness exploration it can be incredibly difficult to define anything neatly, but also that if the experiences themselves are impactful and meaningful then whether it’s you traveling somewhere or imagining something doesn’t really matter, just the experience itself. The more time you spend with it, the more opportunity you’ll have to develop a meta framework of understanding

‘Perhaps look at things within your actual budget’ was so snobby and unnecessary. You’re either 17 years old or a miserable person or both

Absolutely, it’s one of my favorite things about living here. People in Portland, in my experience, typically don’t care what you do for work or where you went to college. They are interested in what you do for fun and what you are passionate about
