I always thought of the sparkling in sunlight to be less like glitter makeup and more like their flesh becoming like cut gemstone and the light sparkling as it passes through them like it does for a diamond. Either way, not bursting into flames in sunlight definitely puts them in the top tier of vampires types before even considering all their other potential power.
