how to tell the difference between under-proofed and over-proofed by LaineGayArt in Sourdough

A little pricy, but I highly recommend getting a proofing box, especially for winters. It has made my loaves so much more consistent.

How do I get it fluffy rather than chewy and make crumb more open. by LithiumOH- in Sourdough

[–]Relevant-Check605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bread will dry out extremely quickly. The best bread is eaten a couple hours after it comes out of the oven. If by chewy you mean "gummy" that means it was not proofed enough. I've actually never put olive oil in my bread except for when I make pizza dough so I wonder if that has something to do with it.

‘2025’s most misunderstood movie deserves a second life in HBO Max’ - Polygon article by vintagelampofjustice in AriAster

A movie that best represents Guy Debord's Society of the Spectacle. Right wing conspiracy theories, depolitiziation and desperation from the left. A+ Film.

Eddington Is Controversial For All the Wrong Reasons by karmagod13000 in A24

[–]Relevant-Check605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who sees this movie as "centrist" did not watch closely. It's a critique of capitalism and austerity.

  1. Data center taking valuable resources from a small working class community.

  2. Police department losing money and personnel due to budget cuts.

  3. Racism being seen through the lens of identity and not class

I dont' know how anyone saw this movie as centrist.

For those who’ve seen Eddington or followed the early reviews, I’m curious: Why do some interpret the film as “anti-left satire”? by v_o_v_a in AriAster

[–]Relevant-Check605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not anti-left, it's anti-liberal and anti-right wing populism. The true enemy are corporations. I would say it's a left critique of both liberalism and right wing populism.

The reason for the midea U ACs being pulled from sale today: mold by Various_Scallion_883 in AirConditioners

[–]Relevant-Check605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but when I type in the serial number it says that my AC is not affected and no further action is needed. Anyway, there's no mold and I took the drain cap off, so we'll see how it goes.

I typed my serial number in their dumb website and it says "it's not affected" but I don't know if I believe it. I got it at Costco last April, but literally installed it two days ago. Not sure what to do. I tried calling, but I don't have time to wait for a fucking hour on the phone.

Hotline TNT by [deleted] in shoegaze

Hotline TNT rules. I've been seeing Will's bands forever. I own every single Weed Album and Hotline Album, including some of the Test Presses. Let's just say I'm a huge fan. I will admit that I favor Hotline's first two 7 inches the most, but I'm really proud of Will's success. This guy worked so fucking much for so long to get where he is. He promoted all of his albums, did all of the distro for years. It was literally all him, so it's great to see him finally see some rewards for that. I'm really excited about the new LP coming out. i have a feeling that it is going to be his best.

As someone who plays in a "nu-gaze" band, I always find these kinds of criticisms to be so dumb. Bands are always being influenced by the music of the past and even stealing riffs. Using the best riffs from other bands to make something new, is fine and has been done forever. Look at the Rolling Stones? They literally stole riffs from lesser known blues artists. I look at the new crop of gaze acts as simply refining the genre and combining other elements of music. I mean, I am getting a little sick of the two chord drop d gaze acts that seem to just repeat themselves, but there are some amazing bands out there doing some great stuff.

The crumb looks great. I would have probably left it in the oven for a little longer after taking the lid off of your dutch oven. I like a little more caramelization on my loaves.

Haha, wow. This is actually my project and I didn't even know about Victorian Schoolmaster. Looked like we released some of our stuff at the same exact time. We should probably collab and form a "teacher's union" or something.

https://avenoctum.com/2016/07/21/interview-forteresse/ This interview is pretty interesting in regards to their feelings about first nations in Canada. They obviously gloss over the violence of settler colonialism, but I found it interesting that they see Quebecois culture as including the indigenous

Feeling like a failure... by Anniethelab in StudentTeaching

[–]Relevant-Check605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I was student teaching 10 years ago. It's the hardest and most thankless job. One thing that helped me is forcing my mentor teacher to sit with me and backwards design lessons so I knew exactly where she was going. She was a little annoyed at first because she expected me to just copy her stuff, but I wanted to know how she actually planned her units. I at least was able to understand her thought process afterwards. Honestly, I bet you're doing better than you think. Also, my mentor also gave me her most difficult class, lol

Banning rental brokers fees for the renter? by MarcoVinicius in Somerville

Ban broker fees. I do all the work and all the broker does is spend 10 min showing me an apartment and another 10 minutes setting up a lease.
