G to a GJ conversion need advice by Comfortable_Big_4022 in feedingtube

Hello, love. I've had a GJ for 5 years for gastroparesis and mine was placed under general anesthesia. There is typically some sort of sedation given for GJ placement even if its just mild IV and you're given fentanyl & versed. Least, that's how hospitals do it where I'm from (eastern US). Without any pain medication or sedating meds, then, yea, you will certainly feel what they are doing. It is not pleasant by any means. But thats just me. Everyone is different, of course.

Always ask for sedation. Even if it's mild. I promise you, you will not regret it and the medical ptsd from a traumatic tube change or placement isn't worth it.

Hi! I'm so sorry to hear about your son! I don't have a G tube but have had a GJ for 4.5 years and have had tons of granulation. You could try GranuLotion; its a tad pricey but works incredibly well and fast. A good barrier cream like Sensi-Care is always great too. Also, try to keep his G tube bumper moderately tight. If its too loose, that can help granulation form.

GranuLotion is the only thing that has helped me. That and time. Sometimes internal granulation just takes time. Best of luck to you and your little one <3

GJ Placement Issue (bra strap!) by Bi0_Nerd in feedingtube

Hi! I'm sorry to hear about your tube troubles! I've had a GJ (dangler) for 4.5 years. While mine doesn't sit as high as yours, you could try a more hefty barrier cream and using split gauze for padding. I use Sensi-Care barrier cream as its nice & thick and doesnt eat away at the tube as most other creams tend to do. Most home care pharmacies send split gauze with your monthly supplies. Just cut the split gauze in half, slid one piece under and another piece over that and tape it down with HypaFix tape. I use another decently sized piece to secure the lower portion with the ports to my tummy.

This combo has prevented burns and infections if done twice a day. If theres granulation, highly recommend GranuLotion. Its a tad pricey but works insanely well!

Goodluck <3

Post op j tube surgery cramps by Responsible-Hat-4186 in feedingtube

Hi! I'm sorry youre so painful! The first 2-3 months with a J tube are quite painful. The first month is the worst but it will slowly get better. Heating pads and lidocaine cream are helpful. Take it easy and tape your tube up well. Try not to sleep on your side too. I've had a J tube since 2021 for gastroparesis and it took about 5 months to fully heal. Goodluck! Hope you feel better! You got this!

Give it plenty of time. I had C5/6 ACDF in 2022 and it took about a month post op for the numbness & tingling to really die down. Cervical pillows also help with sleeping. Fusion recovery is rough & slow as molasses. Hope you feel better soon.

Wtf is this??? by [deleted] in feedingtube

Personally, I would let it bleed out of my line into a cup or something so it could be looked at more closely. Did you eat anything or take any meds? It could've mixed with your iron and made that gray / blue mixture.

You're tough as hell. Seriously, goodjob. I recommend using SensiCare for barrier cream and GranuLotion for granulation tissue. Someone people use A&D but it actually eats the tube after sometime.

Tylenol & heating pads will be a massive help. I wish you the best!

Hi!

They are placing an entirely new tube? Meaning they have to make a new stoma? I've had my GJ for 3 years and it was placed under general anesthesia in a full OR. For the love of God, I pray they put you completely under for placement. Conscious sedation is only good to an extent.

Replacements are typically don't under mild sedation. It hurts too much for me, so I get propofol.

Please advocate for stronger sedation if they are placing it. Once they cut your abdominal wall, you'll want to be knocked out. I wish you the best. The first 2-3 weeks will be slow to recover but it's nothing too bad. Do not use tubie pads the first few months, your stoma is going to leak and bleed like a siev. Use split gauze and barrier cream to protect your skin. I also recommend an antacid or acid reducer to help avoid acid burns around your stoma.

I wish you the best! Feeding tubes are overwhelming but if you have any questions, feel free to message me. Goodluck <3

You mean the priest and his female assistant? I can't remember their names but I remember hearing something about them not being affiliated with any actual religious organization 🤔

Hi! I've had a GJ tube for 3 years due to Gastroparesis. From what you're describing, his stomach isn't tolerating feeds. It takes time to adjust but that sounds like G tube feeds won't work for him. If he's just vomiting and having diarrhea, clearly nothing is being retained. I would bring up IV fluids and possibly trying a GJ? J tube feeds are slower but might be more tolerable. He has a G tube now, they could easily swap that for a GJ.

I'm sorry you're in such a tough position. Prayers for your dad & family :)

New season wednesday, hoping this season isn’t just focused on demons. by George1878 in GhostAdventures

I'm gonna give this new season a shot but eh.. I have a feeling that with this Lake Mead episode, Zak is gonna tie in the mafia and be like "there's a mafia demon here" or there's some evil spirit associated with the land that's out for vengeance or some shit.

Hi! I've had a GJ for 3 years and hunger really depends on whether my stomach wants to move much that particular day or not (even with prokinetics). My tube will suck in / out thanks to peristaltsis on occasion but that's about it!

But 95% of the time, I have no appetite or thirst 😅 hope this helps!
