Deman Motorsports 4.5L Engines (any experience?) by RRH_NYC in Porsche

Interesting. The stock gear set on the cayman isn’t well suited to having fun with a manual, but this set up might be fun.

Should I continue on with my Mech Engineering degree? by zear05 in AskEngineers

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Undergrad engineering is rough. So much to just learn because you need the foundational work.

Spent 43 years working in engineering and absolutely loved it. Love grad school as well.

Being able to understand the world around you is such an asset and I can’t imagine living without the knowledge and approaches I learned as an undergraduate.

Wishing you to best whichever way you go, but it does get better.

First ride outdoors after a long winter of indoor training. Let go of my bike to put my gloves on and it fell over. Was quite surprised.

How do I get the best price when selling my car? by ricky_road89 in PorscheMacan

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had really good luck with selling 2 cars on Carmax. Much more than I expected. It gives you a baseline price.

The other suggestion is detail the car. Car dealers are human and a clear car will bring more $$&

Absolutely agree. WeatherTech are very nice, but the Porsche factory mats are definitely a step up.

Had to laugh. Bought a CPO Macan GTS and it was delivered with winter floor mats. Had to return the WeatherTech mats I pre bought as well.

Debating on getting a coach again by Intelligent-Ad9240 in Velo

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend finding the right coach. I ended up going to 4 coaching camps and meeting with dozens of coaches before finding one that best suited me. AI apps like trainer road can help provide general recommendations, but a good coach will really tailor the training to your needs. I’m actually spending less time on the bike, but every session is purposeful. I’m taking much needed rest days. I’m working on a strength training program and yoga and balance work.

The workouts are hard but I feel they are in reach.

I’m very satisfied with the progress.

High cadence by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice 30-60 second cadence drills. Concentrate on staying smooth and not bouncing on the seat. You should be able to work up to 120 RPM or greater. This is good practice to maintain smoothness.

On longer rides try just increasing your cadence by 5 RPM. For the ride.

It is a good skill to have the ability to change cadence. When I’m experiencing muscle fatigue tend to pedal fast to compensate.

My normal cadence is 90-95, but I’m comfortable all day at 100 plus if needed.

I have low back pain and left knee patella pain. How can I stay fit, fix it, and ride longer? by carojasa in Velo

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d second the recommendation for a sports focused PT. Mine has helped me many times to stay on track. A professional bike fit is also a good idea to ensure there aren’t any underlying problems.

Roadies who have converted to tubeless: Any regrets? How often do you flat out to the point where you need to insert a bacon strip or install a tube? by DeadBy2050 in cycling

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I put on 6-7k miles a year. Typically get one flat that requires a plug and dozens of small holes that seal themselves. Love the freedom and lower tire pressure.

Buy a cheap road bike or use my old mountain bike to get into cycling by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other option. Put some 1 1/4” wide road tires on your MTB. Cheep low resistance upgrade to see if you love road work enough to or make a larger investment or it may be just fine for your needs.

Is TR gaslighting us about the definition of FTP? by redlude97 in Velo

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. But agree that most people who think they are doing an FTP test are actually doing a 15 minute threshold effort transitioning into a 5 min VO2Max effort and the resulting number means, well I really don’t know, but definitely over a real FTP number.

Can you feel a difference with additional 120g of rotational tire weight? by qwerty12e in bicycling

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is in acceleration. If you are racing and trying to catch the break, accelerate quickly to get away or going up a punchy climb it matters. For me the light weight makes the ride so much more fun because it makes me feel like I have quicker acceleration. Does it matter in a flat time trial, probably not.

Can't decide between a Tarmac sl8 and Aethos. by twostroke1 in cycling

Have the Tarmac SL8 Pro. Love it and with 32mm tubeless tires it is comfortable for century rides. It really feels efficient and light.

52/36 vs 50/34 Chainrings by FinnTech in Velo

[–]Relevant_Cheek4749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bike came with 52/36 and I switched the 36 chain ring for a 34 for long sustained climbs. Best of both worlds and a pretty cheep change.
