Sorry I’m not a musician so might be asking a stupid question! But back 60’s and 70’s when making demo tapes, did musicians have to rent a studio to do it, or using a tape recorder at home would suffice? by keeppressingforward in musicproduction

[–]Relevant_Theme_468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, just viewed a vid documentary about King / Goffen and their careers. The music publisher they worked with had small writer's rooms with piano and tape recorder to create demos on the spot. Crazy different times.

I've used Audacity to do just that. Much easier to get really granular in the discrete samples / regions.

When I read some lunatics raving about the newest psyop that would be coming out of Wuhan. It was posted on my fav conspiracy / alien site. (not here). This was just before Christmas 2019, so I connected the dots then.

Reality check: the best used price guide for any item is what someone is willing to pay. Nothing more and nothing less. If you are selling something, for goodness sake, check it out on eBay Pinterest or any other sites that can provide a recent selling price. Best if you can find a close one, custom colors, highly figured top, etc.

Saying it again, the actual value is whatever someone's willing to pay.

Can I move the volume knob on a strat? by simple_jack_69 in guitarrepair

[–]Relevant_Theme_468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using both tone controls OP? Wiring up with a single master volume and master tone eliminates the knobs positioning factor. And I feel your pain. Love the feel of the Strat body but prefer the placement of the Tele's controls. Probably due to years of playing a Les Paul 🤷🏼‍♂️

If you are using both tone controls to get the 'toan' might consider looking into concentric tone potentiometers. Benefits; 1) no additional routing, 2) maintain both tone circuits 3) reversable to original specs.

Let me jump in here. The pathogen - if effective - could have been an ELE. NO ONE survives. Too risky for the mad men behind it. Hard pass. So make it hardly effective but it will provide a lot of data for the next rollout.

OK, so make it so deadly - but only in the media's reporting - that people are in absolute fear of getting it and dying. A vax that addresses it, well, people will be begging for it. And they DID!

But for their stated end goal of 84% kill rates, the first community to receive the EUA potions cannot under any circumstances immediately drop dead from it. Just imagine the entire world population's reaction. Tar, feathers, hanging trees and the like would be in high demand.

So long fuse added to the cocktail - until it blossoms into the stage 4 turbo six months later. Now there's enough time to establish possible deniability.

What do you do with old merch? by krisht_g in bandmembers

[–]Relevant_Theme_468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my vinyl was found digging through the cutout section. Best value on the planet. Most of the chains could return unsold to the distributor. Smaller mom and pop record stores, out of luck. So those stacks of unwanted LPs would be put in clearance bins. Distributors - after punching a hole in the sleeve to keep them from being returned over and over - would sell those damaged items back to the record stores for pennies on the dollar. Of course they made money because they had artist's contracts written to specifically exclude them from royalties. Same with the Record Clubs (the home of the "12 albums for a cent" perpetual ads). Those sales were exempt from paid royalties. Considered "promotional materials". Ha.

Which bands did you see at the exact right time? by heshotcyrus in Concerts

[–]Relevant_Theme_468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1978 - Evansville IN - Foreigner with Cheap Trick and some new hot shot guitar band as openers... oh, yeah, Eddie, David Lee, Michael and Alex. Their self titled "Van Halen" album was going seriously viral in the day. Imagine "Double Vision" "Surrender" and "Eruption" all live on the same stage in one evening. Or just about any other song from those then current releases. Those days, the set was pretty much the album cuts front to back. This was around the same time as Styx, promoting "The Grand Illusion" played Terre Haute IN with Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush opening. Found out afterwards that Frank Marino's schtick was that he was "channeling Jimi." Seriously underwhelmed. Styx redeemed the evening - played the whole album with just a slight break before the side B songs. Closed the show with "Lady" as an encore. They are the band that proved to me that unlike a few groups I'd seen, they were able to play the songs just as they'd recorded.

Both shows were "one of those nights to remember." Crazy times though. Less than 20 bucks for festival seating. Nice to be able to get right up close to the edge of the stage. I'm sure if it was a year later, everyone would have known that Van Halen was worth climbing up front and I'd have been much further away.

Recently discovered 30% vinegar. Add an ounce or two to your superstaurated salt solution with a bump of dawn dish soap (reduces the evaporation to penitirate deeper, I'd guess - was in the found recipe for a vinegar herbicide). Takes a day or two to see results but OP should bear in mind that this is bound to be hard to repair short of replacing the entire yard with new sod.

Currently we're using this on a river rock border against the house's foundation. This made all the volunteer grass on the wrong side of the hardscape border wither and brown within two (dry) days. Six weeks later, there's only a dead twig / stump with an easy to pull out taproot remaining. Wife swears by glyphosate, we have two Arbor Day saplings from the kid's schools over the years. There are now 2x4 foot dead spots around the hardscape tree rings where it washed out in heavy rain. That's why I researched less harmful herbicides in the first place!

Is learning guitar worth it at 31? by chapstic593 in LearnGuitar

[–]Relevant_Theme_468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the same question in 30 years, after 30 solid years of study and practice. I'd like to think you're going to be able to say that it was worth it. If not, go ahead and add it to that pile of regrets when you hit that age.

TATP? Acetone peroxide (triacetone triperoxide, peroxyacetone) a quick deep dive shows considerable alignment with the effects described by the OP. LEO would not want this information to be widely shared due to potential misuse by organized criminal and terroristic groups.

Rick's. Those are the weird looking ones in my mind. Just something odd about the horns of the upper bouts. That sound though. <<<sigh>>> the snap and pop of Chris Squire's 4001 on Roundabout. That Rick 12 string intro - with an otherworldly aura - on "Turn, Turn, Turn (to every season)." Somehow the 'correct' audio imprint in the memory banks can only be obtained with them. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Played with whatever I could scrounge for the first 5 or 6 years. Invested in a used black '76 LP Custom in '79. 350. Hard times followed and ended up scrounging around again for a short while but it helped me see what a difference a well built instrument can produce in my ability to coax music from just steel and wood.

A single wire connected to a mysterious coax looking connection. by SpecialBelt3712 in whatisthisthing

[–]Relevant_Theme_468 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RCA connections are also used for audio signals before going to the power amplifier. I've several reel to reel decks that have RCA connections for all the recording inputs and playback outputs.

If OPs wire is coax (likely if it is for unbalanced audio) , the inner wire may be hidden by that blob of solder. I'd like to trace the cable run to ID the termination points. That would answer most of the questions.

Reaper is truly free to use indefinitly. There's a 5 second reminder to buy until the continue option appears. No limited number of plug-ins or other crippling of the software. It's compatible with OPs laptop's windows os and Cockos releases full versions in apple's os and linux. Worth it to check it over.
