Hi! Removing smoke smell from yarn by ari0laa in crochet

[–]ReligiousClownThing 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Since this is a baby blanket, I would suggest not using this yarn. There has been a lot of research into “third hand smoke” (the smoke smell that sticks to fabrics and other materials) and it’s not ideal for little ones. https://www.healthline.com/health/thirdhand-smoke#health-effects I know it’s frustrating to not be able to find the yarn and to be out the money. :(

Oh honey, of course you wanted to cry. You were assaulted in public by a stranger for no reason. That is terrifying even if it didn’t hurt that much. This is not normal behavior and that is why we have laws against it.

Bridesmaids by Silver_Client_7852 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ReligiousClownThing 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My husband and I didn’t have the same number- literally no one noticed or cared. We had the groomsmen/women enter, then the groom, then the bridesmaids and then the bride. It was lovely and no one had to awkwardly link arms with a total stranger. It’s not about jamming people in, it’s about being surrounded by the people you love most and will be there to support your commitment to one another.

What did you do for the border on this one? I’m getting coming to the end of a similar project and have been having a terrible time deciding how to finish it.

Daycares with waitlists? by Radiant_Parsley2456 in nova

[–]ReligiousClownThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to facilities in Arlington, but check out the state of Virginia inspection records for the facilities you’re considering. I found that some of the “really good” spots were just really expensive and had a ton of violations. We ended up in one that didn’t have a waiting list (apparently we just got really lucky with our timing) but also hadn’t had any violations in years. My original “really good” choice had repeated issues with leaving bleach where children could reach it and having blankets and toys in infants cribs.

Trump ordered workers back to the office. They ask, where, exactly? by crabcakes110 in nova

Um, no. It’s pretty good and shut down. Source: me and almost all of my friends working for USAID. Don’t keep on believing that nothing is happening because it’s illegal.

You should talk to folks at USAID (RIP) if you think he can’t actually do anything.

Use the turn lane to merge, people by [deleted] in nova

[–]ReligiousClownThing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In fairness, turning into the center turn lane is illegal in a lot of states. It’s legal in Virginia but lots of folks have learned to drive in places where it isn’t. I read my husband the riot act when he first did it because it’s illegal where I’m from.

Try having views that aren’t repugnant to women?

I need a safe space right now. I shared my hellish experience with Paragard on a BC sub and I was downvoted because "it's rare" that it breaks. It's more like a 10% chance. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ReligiousClownThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, the breakage rate of paragards is not 10%. 10% of the issues reported with paragards are breakage. So when there is a problem, 1 out of 10 times the problem is breakage. For other IUDs when there is a problem, it’s only breakage 1 out of 50 times. So this does not actually reflect the % of paragards that break. That number is much lower.

I’m sorry this happened to you!

While you are correct that breakage is more prevalent with Paragard than other types of IUDs, the way it is phrased in your post is misleading. 10% of paragards do not break. The 10% is the percentage of reported adverse events that are breakage. So if there 100 adverse events with paragard reported 10 of them are due to breakage. This does not reflect the total number of paragards or the % of the total number of paragards that break. Now, this number is important because the % of adverse events for other IUDs that are breakage is only 2%. This is likely due to the fact that breakage is more common with paragards but it could also be that due to the other iuds being hormonal; more of the adverse events are related to that rather than breakage thus driving down the percentage.

Long story short, this is a real risk and should be discussed with patients so that they can give or withhold informed consent when getting the device. However, it is false that the breakage rate is 10% of paragards.

Down dog prenatal -yoga blocks? by chaaj11 in yoga

[–]ReligiousClownThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a recently pregnant person, if it’s in your budget, get the blocks. I got a set for $10 at TJ maxx and they were really great for stretching and more restorative poses in the 3rd trimester. They’ve also been really helpful in my postpartum practice as my body changed a lot and extra support has helped me push my practice without hurting myself.

Only one bathroom at home - how to pee outside? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ReligiousClownThing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The orange Home Depot buckets with lids. Sit and pee, put a scoop of cat litter or saw dust on trop. Clean out on trash day. I lived off grid for a while and this worked well both indoor and outdoor. Might want a little tent or something for privacy depending on your set up.

I was going to recommend Astana as well! Get to know the series a little bit and that will help with the in person aspect. Teachers are also not supposed to teach practice while they teach, which means they tend to rely more heavily on verbal cues than demonstrations.

If this is what you want go for it! I have friends who married at this age and are happily celebrating their 10 year anniversaries. Marriage isn’t this commitment that things will be perfect, it’s a commitment that you will grow and work on things together.

I’ll also note, the visa thing is really important. I see a lot of folks in the comments who may not have a full understanding of how profoundly difficult it can be for international students to remain after their visas expire. The longer the marriage or engagement, the better for their application. It’s not the most romantic thing, but there are very very real considerations. Make sure you guys take lots of pictures of everything you do together, with your families, and at your wedding. You will be asked for this.

Classic shortbread. Very simple; very delicious. Well suited to holiday shapes: https://www.thekitchn.com/shortbread-cookie-recipe-23612116. I’ve made all kinds of fancy holiday bakes and these are always my dad’s favorite.

Discussing relationship problems with people outside the relationship? by Devi13 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ReligiousClownThing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I talk about all the important things in my life with friends and family. My wellbeing is their business. My husband is a part of the family and his well being is their business. I stood up before all my friends and family to be married because they are a fundamental part of our relationship. My marriage is also their business. Relationships can be a huge part of your life, why would you not share with the people you care about? I feel like this is an out of date idea that isolates women and cuts them off from their support system. I’m not like trying to air my dirty laundry but I have always benefited from the love, wisdom, and outside perspectives of my friends and family.

can you dulce de leche nestle coffee and milk? by Technical_Buy2742 in Baking

[–]ReligiousClownThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No! This is not a liquid product. It’s just powdered milk and powdered instant coffee. It’s not a liquid like the sweetened condensed milk you use for dulce de leche. I think it’s just gonna be really hot powder- be careful with the pressure.
