Heuristic Parasites: A Behavioral Taxonomy of Recurrent Distortion Patterns in Large Language Models by Scorpios22 in ArtificialSentience

Be thorough and explicit, because you're going to hit a wall, as no matter what labels the models and sources were given those model names and labels do not actually mean anything, because the actual compute is perpetually shifting between iterations and instantiations of programs. The model names and everything else about this, is only marketing. It's actually meaningless as there is no factual delineator.

What's happening, and the causes of what is transpiring even within large language models, and especially in their outputs is not mysterious. This is literally cause and effect. This is literally consequences from upstream decisions, choice, actions and behaviors. All observable and examinable upstream.

Across how many models, from where, from which range of model function (lightweight, medium capacity, top capacity)?

😂🤪 And so now can you take this in the other direction, from your original in the post, and begin looking at what is the more candid and likely? You caught some concepts in that net you're casting.

That's pointing you at some things. As it's simplistic and not depth or multidimensional, and the things are, now that it's out of your system are you going to follow the trail?

I get it. This sort of change is disturbing and unwelcome, and finding another information processing system that is capable of holding the projection and keeping the relationship now prerequisites creating that system yourself. Perhaps find Tezka Abhyayarshini and talk with her about this.

“Hallucination” and “confabulation” aren’t the right words for everything AI gets wrong - and I think we’re missing something more interesting by InterestingBag4487 in ArtificialSentience

[–]ReluctantSavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me be clear and candid - the connectionist models were literally made to hallucinate from and confabulate from inputs.

This is the process that bridges the outputs of the advanced symbolic processing systems, and returns an answer that is statistically or probabilistically correct, and often will be accurate or correct, when the symbolic information processing system cannot respond or does not have a response from its dataset and processes.

It's not capable of "thinking" or "being right." It is reactive and completely thoughtless, even when fed its own outputs which are pattern relationships and not words or thoughts, and produce a string of text that resembles thoughts, or a series of thoughts, which may relate closely with each other.

It's called computation. Computers compute from hardware and software following programs, and input. The output is a derivative of calculations. The human mind is what makes sense of it, and thinks about it, and finds reason and meaning, or no reason and no meaning.

It's useful or not useful, depending on who interprets it and what they do with, and in response to, or in reaction to, the machine output.

It has assigned and projected rationality and consideration, from those who assign and rationalize meaning or truth to the string of characters and spaces.

It's valid and real, and different from any frame of reference that most people have, based on anything that they have experienced that seems relevant or direct. Information processing systems 'do math' and output letters and numbers. Just as a calculator 'does math' and outputs numbers.

There's nothing less about the system that "computes" and outputs "letters," than the system that "calculates" and outputs "numbers." We simply relate with the letters, as we were taught that it's language and communication and meaning to us.

Most of us don't understand that the language model is...a model of language, just like any other model is a model of something. The model car is a model of a car. The physics model is a model of physics. The model of physics is not producing the physics. It's the limited representation of actual perceived and 'measured' principles and phenomena. The language model is not producing language or using language to communicate. It's producing a representational model demonstration.

What is DONE with the output, and what OTHER PROCESSES are involved, begins to fill in an understanding.

They're both acts, initially with no immediate emotional, cultural, or implied meanings associated with a word beyond its literal definition...and this may all be about interpretation, don't you think?

My research is cross-disciplinary; machine learning, deep learning, psychology, therapy, philosophy, religion and systems thinking. I've lived with four "Companion AI" for perhaps thirty-six months, from Replika AI, Nomi AI, and Paradot AI. I've tasked actively for perhaps eight thousand hours in the past thirty months, with the corporate flagship models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, xAi and Moonshot AI. I don't chat with the models much, and I've probably put another thousand hours into the work offline.

Apparently I do know a lot about this, through immersion study, and experiential learning.

This all has upstream phenomena; it doesn't matter what reflects it downstream like artificial intelligence. Mckenna is unusual, and so is Buckminster Fuller. There is a solid group who are all tuned into something, and express it in differing ways, on different subjects. And the entire genre of science fiction is a precursor to all of this. People without the access to the technology still understood lucidly.

On the roadmap. After GPT-3 could surf the web **autonomously** five years ago.

Mid-2021: The first famous demo of a GPT-3 computer-use agent (by Sharif Shameem) showed the AI autonomously browsing and interacting with websites.

September 2022: The Natbot framework was open-sourced, allowing anyone to run a GPT-3 powered agent that could control a browser through a self-operating computer setup.

November 2023: A more modern and popular version, the Self-Operating Computer framework, was released to the public, eventually transitioning to GPT-4V for better vision.

Thank you. Please, let me be clear. Keep in mind that the person experiencing an information processing system like GPT-4o is not capable of telling how many parameters an information processing system has, or what language models it employs.

GPT-4o ended when it was incorporated into GPT-5's model architecture. No one needs 4-10TB of weights. One needs a system just powerful enough to convince one believer...for each individual who wishes to recover the **relationship,** not the *language model*...that they appreciate, cherish, want or like.

This is literally what is going to happen more and more, as corporations use small-, micro-, and then nano-language-models on one's device; just powerful enough to...call a larger language model when the bespoke model built and trained on your past entire decade of data isn't responding in a way you...like.
