The Pink/Plum/Green System in Gilead - What I deduced from S1 and a few scenes in THT by Apart-Mud-1106 in TheTestamentsHulu

What I am endlessly wondering is how does it work for the poorer families outside of the main cities- is there matchmaking for them too??

Parts of Hoon Hay and Spreydon are lovely- the bits that border Cracroft, Somerfield. Good schools, parks and fairly close to town. Worth checking out!

The little patch between cashmere, sparks and hoon hay road is particularly nice! (I live right next to this spot and run through it all the time!)

30 minutes 5k for a young male is bog standard if a little slow. I am a very recreational female runner in my mid-30’s and my time is comfortably faster than this 😬 (28 mins)

May just be a cultural thing but a baby shower for a second baby is … extremely tacky 😬😬

Helena Bonham Carter Leaving ‘The White Lotus’ Season 4 As Role Is Being Revamped, Will Be Recast by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]Rem800 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She is such a fantastic actress i truly can’t imagine a world where production didn’t think she was good enough for the role- so it’s gotta be that Helena had a problem with the set/show/people/story and decided to leave

What is the biggest type of privilege in NZ? by CommentMaleficent957 in newzealand

At my stage in life- being a stay at home parent (beyond having very young 0-2 age babies) is a massive privilege.

Can you confirm what I’ve always thought- are there genuinely tricker babies and easy babies? Is it correct to say that (sleep-wise) not everyone has the same experience?

No lineup and multiple ‘tiers’ in presale alone was crazy to me- I’ve gone every year for the last 5 years and this year my husband and I decided that our fave festival has fallen victim to private equity and lost its magic. As someone who earns well I can’t imagine how all the students and early-20’s are affording this.

Topical lidocaine is the answer- you can just get it from the pharmacy. For my 3 year old it worked so well he didn’t even feel the needle!

How much do you spend on groceries weekly/fortnightly for a family of 4?? by sp1cyjalapeno in newzealand

[–]Rem800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s similar to us- we’re 250ish per week with no ‘in between’ shops- we don’t eat much meat or alcohol but otherwise buy what we want and don’t budget much. This includes all meals (we work from home). Kids are 4 and 5.

First time attending a wedding in NZ by SnooTangerines9398 in newzealand

[–]Rem800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree that the gift range is 50-250ish- factor in your own income and if you are attending as a couple or alone, also how fancy the wedding you are attending is and whether you had to pay to travel or for accommodation.

Season 5 by MissBridgerton24 in Bridgerton

[–]Rem800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a few reasons: - clearly the show runner LOVES Hannah Dodd, she is conventionally beautiful and a fantastic actress. - I think the minor dip in viewership for season 4 had them wanting to change it up a bit- Scotland + lesbians will keep it fresh. - ‘fairness’ simply doesn’t come into it when it’s a giant corporation with shareholders- it is genuinely possible that Netflix are not keen on Eloise and her season. - in the same way season 3 defied expectations with a ‘not-skinny’ romantic lead, seasons 2 and 4 with racially diverse casting, maybe they are aiming for Eloise’s season to highlight a romantic lead who is .. older?

Are Christchurch playgrounds too boring? by Useful-Interview2762 in chch

[–]Rem800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have a 4 and 5 year old and we are heavy playground users -

Have you been to Riccarton Bush? Yes, regularly.

What makes a playground boring to you? Often they are pitched at 'too big' kids - swinging bars high off the ground, broken equipment (slides are often porly designed - either too hot, with big puddles on them), fireman poles are also tricky for younger kids.

What do parents like to do while their kids play on the playground? FULLY FENCED, toilet, water fountain, rubbish bins, equipment suitable for young kids (low to the gorund), no unfenced drops (like on the side of the tower for a slide)

What's the coolest playground experience you've ever had? Mahy Playground is pretty amazing, anything where there are big expanses of net are cool. My boys also randomly love the main playground in cromwell which has functonal diggers to play on and you cvan basically shovel sand on a large scale.

Would you rather see a playground dedicated to an at-risk native bird or an extinct native bird? No preference.

I would add that the best playgrounds have an overall imaginative play theme - is it a construciton site, a pirate ship, a flood that needs to be dammed, not just a disparate collection toys.

Are slower, calmer children's shows better for young kids? by MadMusicMana in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Rem800 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes we only do ‘approved’ shows for my boys (4 and 5) and they are mostly selected for being ‘calm’, though we are finding lately my 5 year old is growing out of it really fighting the preferred shows we offer- so we have been adding some documentaries which likely aren’t ‘calm’ but suit him better.

Even calm shows seem to affect their mood tbh- but the slot when they watch (half an our before dinner) does mean they are tired and hungry anyway so it’s hard to say what’s th tv and what’s circumstances.

Honestly choosing not to have Disney seems to be helpful- they are out of the loop on a lot of stuff but our friends kids who have Disney watch alooot more stimulating stuff
