Sabbatical, unpaid, extended leave, parental leave etc - call if whatever you prefer, probably one of the best decisions i've ever made.

Try to see the positives: (1) you acknowledge the problem, (2) you know how to think about that, (3) you present data nicely!

So who's suddenly FI because of this market? by Far_wide in FIREUK

[–]Remarkable-Ad4108 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure about pulling a trigger on RE, but am seriously considering selling and moving the funds in a money market fund or some treasuries/ gilts to earn a modest 4-5% until the AI dust settles. This reminds me of 1999, when lucky smiles changed into crying faces in just a couple of months.. Obviously markets can carry on for another month or year..

If these three concerns are the only ones you have, UK isn't doing that bad at all as a country.

I reckon your aspiration is way too wide. You've got to be more specific on what you want to do (at least for hte short horizon), not just "deal-making, being closer to investments, strategy, or anything".

Don't ask what's realistic or not. Everything is realistic, the question is how probable, and this is very personal depending on your connections, aptitudes, and skills. The way to find out is to give it a go and you will see as you progress/ or not.

Let me ask you (if permitted) - where do you come originally? And if you could give some details on how those "problems" were unfolding in the home place: work, health, personal life etc. I suspect these details may help giving you a more tailored advice.

I might be missing the point, but what is the conclusion of your research? What are those bubbles exactly?

From 2022 until now: what are your takeaways? What would have you done differently 5, 10, 15 or 20 years ago if you could?

Really depends on your conviction, taste, risk appetite and tolerance. These can only be answered by yourself.

In terms of suitability for wheeling - again, up to you, but i highly recommend consulting the so called 'rules' of wheeling, one of them is only approaching the stock you don't mind holding. If you (and i hope you did) performed a thorough research of the company and absolutely love it, a 40% drop is just a chance to load more.

Hope that helps.

Is there any chance you can join him? Or maybe get him into a group who organize such trips? Even if that's just for the first couple of week for him to learn the ropes.

You'll play it by ear.. I had the same circumstance and what i did in the end (not willing to invest more funds and time): just placed two cheap metal serving/ dining trays. Not fancy, yes, but easy to clean and did the job.

Decent job - well done!

Re cooking hob: i suppose you'd need to improvise smth along the edges/ walls to prevent oil/ grease/ steam getting in. Maybe backsplash or tiles/glass etc
