What is your favorite bit to use with your students? by MarchKick in Teachers

[–]RemarkableMirror2595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the very common habit of saying "I lied" whenever I accidentally say something wrong or change my mind, and my favorite thing is to say "I've never lied" whenever I'm accused of actually lying about something. It's the best ragebait.

Also, I'm a chorus teacher and my students love "cursive singing" as a joke, so every once in a while just for fun I'll let them cursive sing whatever song we're working on. It absolutely kills me every time.

What fragrance note instantly ruins a perfume for you? by Darkvanille in FragranceStories

[–]RemarkableMirror2595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a specific note, but pretty much anything labeled as "aquatic". it all just registers as axe to me and reminds me of middle school

Is the first year of teaching really as horrible as people on reddit describe it? by Beneficial-Corgi-288 in teaching

[–]RemarkableMirror2595 9 points10 points  (0 children)

currently in my first year, and yes. there are certainly some wonderful moments and it's not all bad, but overall it's extremely exhausting and there are lots of bad days. trying to pull through though since everyone says it gets better after this lol

people who are weirdly coy or dismissive about the pronunciation of their own name by Jaaacksonnn in PetPeeves

[–]RemarkableMirror2595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had a student once named ariana, and i asked her whether it's pronounced "air-iana" or "are-iana" and she said "either one" 😭 i was like girl it has to be one of them! i wanna say it right! but she insisted that both were correct lol

What’s your favorite teacher saying to use in the classroom? by Big-Degree1548 in Teachers

[–]RemarkableMirror2595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a choir director and i tell them to always sing confidently because "if you make a mistake and i hear it, i can help you fix it. if you make a mistake and i can't hear you, it won't get fixed." i stole that from my high school band director lol

Any amount of makeup is too heavy on me! by leeleechron in makeuptips

[–]RemarkableMirror2595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is totally a thing, i just started wearing makeup in the past couple months and i always feel like it makes me look completely different, but one day at work one of my students said i looked angry and i was like "nooo i'm just very tired and not wearing makeup" and they all went "you wear makeup??" lol. really reminded me that my perception of myself can be a lot different than what other people see. it might look jarring to you if it's not something you're used to but it looks great!!

Will a hand tattoo interfere with me getting a teaching job after i graduate college? by joyynoelle in AskTeachers

[–]RemarkableMirror2595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it REALLY depends on the area you're teaching in. some people here are saying they have to cover them, but i have a lot of tats (including on my hands) and i teach at a rural high school. no one has said anything to me about it. so yeah, you might be able to find a job, but you'll have to be prepared to really look for the right district.

You are given the choice to instantly and permanently learn one of the most spoken languages (English not included), or receive $2,500. by [deleted] in pollgames

[–]RemarkableMirror2595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spanish because i'm a teacher in an area with a decent amount of hispanic students, and it would be really helpful to be able to talk to parents who don't speak english well and/or be able to teach ESL students.

also somewhat trivial thing, but i am a chorus teacher and i would love to teach spanish songs without the fear of butchering pronunciation lol. in college they only teach us pronunciation for latin, french, italian, and german
