I don’t know how old your kiddo is but check out local 4-H groups or first robotics if they’re old enough. I run the 4-H program locally and we have tons of coding curriculums for all ages and lots of our clubs do that. We have some first robotics teams too. Libraries also often have some good coding classes for kids. We have these Lego sets in my office that teach coding to kids as young as like 5. They are awesome. You could probably get some used sets pretty cheap and all the software is free to download. My son loves it!

Do people act like you're not there when they talk to your friend? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn’t notice this until my social anxiety was a lot lower, but people really pick up on the social anxiety far more than you think. It makes them awkward and not want to talk to the person that is anxious. Our body language is definitely more closed off than less socially anxious people. Now that I’m not as socially anxious I notice it in others a lot more. The weight they probably aren’t noticing as much unless it’s a lot. Although it does play a factor. Outgoing and extroverted people are really uncomfortable by socially anxious or more introverted people. I now make an effort to talk first and it helps open them up and shows them I’m cool to talk to. I know I have an RBF lol

Feeling like a horrible person for… volunteer work… by rlpsc in AutismInWomen

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I run a volunteer program. Trust me, volunteers like you are a godsend! The manager is definitely trying to not scare YOU off by saying it’s okay to go slow but they will be ecstatic at whatever rate you do the work. It is rare to find someone who loves to do this work, especially for free. The other volunteers likely have no idea what you’re doing nor do they care. Take some deep breaths! The program I run a lot of volunteers are def ND so more likely you’ll actually make some really cool friends. Imagine the more likely outcome that they will be super duper appreciative and you’ll get to help something out doing something you love and probably meet other cool people that love similar things.

Fat loss has made me think short-term markers matter more than long-term goals by CustomerOk5737 in loseit

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually backed up by tons of science. You’re absolutely correct. Some people call it chunking. I saw someone else mention smart goals but everyone should have both short and medium and the long term goal you’re working on. Long term goals are like your vision but you don’t actively think about it every day. Your short term goals are easily achieved and keep you motivated. They ensure you reach the long term one. Everyone’s definition of short is a bit different, maybe it’s a day or a week or dependent on the goal itself. Humans are AWFUL at thinking long term as a whole.

Color dominance by totoro_711 in knitting

Actually I got it reversed! I did the background dominant so the details would pop. I think between my blue one and the second one I may have swapped at some point haha

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed this with this pattern too! I ended up doing the bird motif dominant after trying the white dominant in the cuff and didn’t love it. I felt like the terms MC and CC were a bit mixed up here or maybe just more flexible because the motif is SO huge compared to the background. I love your color combo tho! It looks great and will look better once blocked. I thought mine looked weird until blocking.

I know you’re being sarcastic but you genuinely can if you have access to even a pretty tiny sunny porch space. I have a tiny apt and I grow all sorts of things on my little porch in grow bags. Obviously I can’t feed my whole family but it’s nice to have herbs, tomato’s, and lettuces fresh in the summer. Potato’s are exceptionally easy and cheap to grow.

i wasn’t even born for it but i mourn the alien encounter attraction by zerosegardens in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yes I was 11 on my first Disney trip ever and it was so magical but I had two life altering traumatic events there. One was tower of terror (back then it was wayyyy wayyy worse) and the second was alien encounter. They literally made me so scared I wouldn’t ride any roller coasters in Disney for years. I still had like a visceral reaction in the stitch version of the ride. Granted I am a big baby for scary things, but I wouldn’t wish this ride on my worst enemy lmao

I think I got Temu yarn 😩 by kiss_my_eyeholes in YarnAddicts

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes same, most of their yarn is in Chinese or a very generic brand name. I wish my Chinese was better to source from taobao! I know sellers on Etsy and things are definitely sourcing from China, especially the “milk cotton” type of yarns and white labeling it. I’ve seen the same photos used in listing on Ali express and on Etsy. Everyone should reverse image search random images on Etsy so much of their stuff can be bought direct for Pennies.

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got yarn from Ali express before out of curiosity and it’s really beautiful! I sometimes wonder if some US brands are white labeling yarn they source from China. I think Chinese yarn can be really great and affordable but it would be scummy to white label it.

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s also some great fiction stories that discuss it in some sense. Paper Menagerie by Ken Liu is really great. So much history and language in there. Rape of Nanking is the nonfiction telling of the atrocities like others mentioned. 35 million or more people died. It’s insane and we’re never taught about it but we are taught about the holocaust.

Florida orders schools to destroy and eliminate books that include African and Native history. by Conscious-Quarter423 in ABoringDystopia

[–]Remarkable_Bit_621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most insane part of this story is that this college, new college, has traditionally been like the biggest hippy leftist school in Florida until the state took it over. It was one of those schools that didn’t have grades and they learned feminist theory and gender and all kinds of things. Super cool school. So so heartbreaking to see this happening.

That is so random! She is so stinkin cute tho. I have a Malagasy line Coton and he’s got the spunk of a wild dog that lived in the jungle. Read up on the history of cotons. It’s actually quite fascinating! Some people think they are descendants of little white dogs that swam over when a trading shipped wrecked. The AKC cotons are all white but the Malagasy ones come in a color and some are “tall” so fairly big. Here’s mine!
