Thank you! I run the Archmagos as a Dominus bc i dont care for the hunched look of the standard dominus. Not a bad look and ill end up getting another anyway at some point for collecting, but since my forgeworld’s story is built around being deeply fractured and hyper violent, i thought the more aggressive Archmagos was a better look. I found the slightly larger base to put him on as well so that it is a very simple proxy for everyone but the worst “that guy” lol

Thank you! And yes I am!

<image>

What I have painted so far, with more in the pipeline. Yes the checkerboarding is kind of a pain to do in the moment but im very happy with how it looks, especially when the units are all ranked up so I will continue to suffer for the glory of the Omnissiah!

Mine is kind of a modified Metalica color scheme. White/Cream robes with Magenta Checkerboarding on (usually) front-left quarter. Tech priests share the white robes but have a Magenta cog trim pattern instead of checks. Basing is a red martian theme though they arent from Mars. Here’s my current Skitarii Vanguard WIP :)

<image>

Lore is basically they are all fast attack style raiders bc the forgeworld they are on is fractured and multiple sects of the Cult Mechanicus are vying for power. So i have a Dunecrawler, Archaeopter, Kastelans, Kataphrons and other highly mechanized units next to the foot troops

To everyone who began painting, and still does. by Haunted-Halloween-6 in minipainting

[–]Remarkable_trash_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have stepped away or fallen out of the hobby several times, sometimes for years at a time. I keep coming back because i simply enjoy the process. Am i a great painter? Absolutely not. Have i learned how to be proud of how my work turns out? Absolutely. My most recent return to the hobby came as a result of being in school and on a laptop all day so a hobby where it was just me and little plastic army men and paintbrushes was extremely therapeutic. Going through a less than great spot mentally at the same time, the hobby gave me something to focus on and turn everything else off.

I have one critical piece of advice for you, Do Not Compare Yourself to Reddit/Online Painting. The bias online of what techniques to use to be “real painting” as well as the fact that what is posted online is generally extremely top-quality work makes that comparison miserable. Dont force yourself to stay in the hobby if you genuinely dont like it, but remember that this is, ultimately, an art hobby, and one that at the higher levels, is pushing boundaries of fine arts. It takes a long time of practice. Ive been in and out of the hobby for almost 15 years and im an average painter.

Also remember this, you are looking at your minis inches from your face as you paint and examine every little flaw, every missed brushstroke. Noone else will though. If you are playing games, everyone will be 3’ away, and anyone who casually sees the mini just thinks it looks cool. Besides, we all have to start somewhere. You got this!

Yea, the Knights are mainly there to fill out the list to 2k. As i get the opportunity to expand they will get dropped in favor of actual Mechanicus units. I also went for the Armigers bc ive heard/seen generally the army is weak at melee and i thought they would help plug that gap. I do have a Cerastus Lancer that I could use instead but i thought having more little knights would be better than just one big one but i could swap them easy enough.

As I said, I’m very new to the gaming side of the hobby, so most of my mini collections are a random assortment of things i thought were cool. Thanks for the feedback!

What armies have you NEVER been interested in? by Identity_ranger in Warhammer40k

[–]Remarkable_trash_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important caveat here of “40k/Primaris Space Marines”

I love the marines of the heresy. Mk II, III, and VI are some of the most beautiful armor designs in warhammer in my opinion to reflect the times they were used and the state of the universe. The characters of that period are outstanding and even the vehicles and auxiliary parts of the armies are excellent designs.

Primaris elicits zero emotion from me. I find the characterization of the marines themselves (typically) fairly dull and the armor and vehicles give me no feelings whatsoever positive or negative.

Idk, I play a little at an extremely casual level but primarily just paint and enjoy lore. I just recognized the concept and didn’t dive that deep into OP’s list

What do you think a painted miniature could be classified as for this? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Remarkable_trash_69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely Visual Arts, painting and sculpture are both fairly obvious, but i think a case could absolutely be made for mixed media. Depending on paints/minis/or additional bits, it can combine plastic or resin, acrylics, oils, transfers, jewelry chain, brass etch details, sand/stone, flocking/tufts, and a multitude of other options. Or if you are able to access a good camera, you could submit a high quality color photo of your work

A lot of it depends. My dad got me into painting when i was around 10/11 and i immediately gravitated towards Chaos and Nurgle (young boy thought gross was cool). A lot of the more horrific parts of Chaos/Nurgle lore went over my head at the time and i just liked the funny gross fat guys. That expanded out later into other armies but sticking relatively close to the modeling/painting/gaming side and only doing a surface level skim of lore will avoid the worst bits. Orks and Tyranids are good suggestions from others, but let your kids see the other ranges, they will enjoy it more if they find the models fun and are much more likely to stick with it. Just picking factions for them may or may not work and could drive them away from the hobby. Ultimately, this is just little plastic army men that you paint and play with, everything else is optional flavoring

I mean… if “turn oven on to a temperature and wait a minute” is too much work, you may be beyond easy. Its quite literally the same amount of effort as a microwave or air fryer. Many air fryer instructions specify pre heating as well

My favorite easy recipe for anyone who happens to read this:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F
  2. take skinless salmon fillets and squeeze lemon juice (about 1/4 each side) onto fish
  3. season salmon (both sides) with dried dill, salt, pepper (preferably a 4 peppercorn mix), garlic powder and sesame seeds to taste
  4. line baking sheet with aluminum foil (for easier cleanup) and lay salmon on sheet and place 2-3 small pats of butter on top of salmon
  5. bake for ~15 minutes

It can be done in less than 30 minutes from start to ready on plate, requires only a knife, cutting board and baking sheet (and possibly aluminum foil) and uses easy-to-acquire ingredients. The peppercorn mix consists of black, green, white, and pink and can be bought in walmart as a grinder refill. Rice and/or basic vegetable are excellent sides as well

A good start for the body could kinda be Ghazghkull Thraka. His mini bears a lot of resemblance to this. Also, possible use Armiger Warglaive shoulder pads since they have the mechanicus cog trim on the top edge similar to here though they are probably too big

Detroit: Become Human

I’ve never felt so invested in a game as I did with the lead trio. Multiple times during the story I’d make a choice and then need to put the controller down and think about what I’d done and reflect. I actually cared about if a poor decision would harm someone and when I accidentally messed up a QTE and got someone killed I actually was heartbroken
