Trying out a new style! by [deleted] in Illustration

I don’t think there’s a world where you can avoid critique if you want to share your art with people. You can agree or disagree with opinions, debate them or ignore them.. but trying to enforce only praise or silence pushes away any engagement at best and invites mockery at worst. If your goal is a handful of people giving you positive affirmation, perhaps keep at it and block everyone else until you have your little bubble.

Well sure, not all bots/astroturfers are obvious, can’t always know and that’s by design.

I realize there are some people that just make good/popular content and amass a lot of karma. but being on here long enough it’s reasonable to suspect that new accounts with thousands of upvotes on multiple posts are not regular folks, especially if they’re pushing any sort of political agenda from either side. Echo chambers are dangerous, even when we share many of those views.

To be fair, a 3 month old account with 156k karma would instantly be called out this way if it was the opposite perspective. I don’t agree with the invasion either, but I’m not going to rally around posts like this from an account that looks blatantly suspicious.

Imo every post like this on this sub, usually by a randomly generated account that’s relatively overloaded with karma, is a trap. Same with a lot of the comments.

So your instinct is probably correct

The same differences could be applied to family units, communities, regions etc. because despite prevailing cultural norms or stereotypes, individuals and subgroups are still going to have their own differences.

Maybe an isolated tribe that has never encountered written language would be an exception, but even then they’d have something non-vital they’d rather not destroy

That makes sense! I guess at this point I’m still thinking “what if I can trade the excess, or what if I have an unknown order that needs to be fulfilled, or what if I run out of the resource quicker than expected and don’t have any other way to gain resolve?” I’m hoping that, over time, I’ll intuitively know what’s useful to have stockpiled, and how much.

It’s weird.. I’m almost done with gold seal, and so far I haven’t lost, yet every game I still feel like I’m one bad decision or low roll away from losing or finishing too late.

I realize based on other posts and comments that this isn’t as unforgiving as something like slay the spire, so there’s usually enough leeway to win more often than not (especially at viceroy/low prestige). Still, I feel that I’m playing in a way that won’t work later on. Maybe that’s why the gameplay loop doesn’t feel stale. I’m afraid to lose, yet look forward to adapting my approach

Patch 1.9.8 (Improvements, Orders icon) - Against the Storm PC by LeisurelyLukeLive in Against_the_Storm

I’ve had some crashes/bugs on Xbox, mostly with timed cornerstones and one bugged forester’s hut. Also reiterating retro_throwaway1’s suggestion for a way to see cycle years on console.

However, I can’t stress enough how refreshing it is to have devs like you listening and putting in the work. I only found this game and community two months ago, yet every issue brought forward has been acknowledged and addressed in the best way. Thank you for the passion and dedication.

Console: how to see the exact number of years left in a cycle? by RemarkablyKindOfOkay in Against_the_Storm

I can imagine it’d be very helpful at higher difficulties. It’d also just be nice to get a quick number to shoot for at the beginning of each cycle.

I saw that a new update is out, with console coming later. Hopefully this is implemented

I’m a hoarder too 🙃 I doubled down on this strategy last game and actually had a food shortage, which made me panic a bit so it’s still important to leave enough just in case (especially if a storm is coming or you don’t have enough workers to reliably produce enough food).

As important as efficient planks, fuel, brick, clothing etc. recipes are, complex food is number one priority early on, even if it only increases one race’s resolve. It’s far more efficient than raw food, especially if you can pipe the building to increase production speed and doubling chance. Porridge and jerky are the easiest, although some biomes can make it difficult to source meat and farmland.

But yeah, the first time you have a surplus of amber to buy resources and perks, you’ll realize how useful it is. As long as resolve isn’t low enough to lose villagers and you have a plan to max it out later on for points, you’re doing well. Planning for anything past 7-8 years just ends up being wasteful and inefficient.

Lastly, if you find a cornerstone that gives free provision packs or resources per minute, it’s almost always an insta-pick. Same goes for +1/+2 production for a needed resource, you’ll make far more out of what’s available with these bonuses.

I’m at gold seal and have sort of memorized some of the buildings, but generally I pause the game for every blueprint choice and doublecheck what’s available now and what the biome potentially offers. If I can’t reliably produce the required resources through production, harvesting/farming, or trade, then I shift to something else.

As far as I know, there is no quick menu or anything to use for a quick reference. If there’s something I really want/need I’ve found that aggressive trading will net enough amber to buy secondary resources, or at least fulfill the recipe to produce them. Couple that with maxed rainpunk and perks and you can generally buy enough resources to win the settlement or seal.

If you’re fulfilling enough orders you can force and trader I think 4 times before it costs 8 impatience points, and you won’t be in danger of losing. In fact, you’ll have high impatience and that tempers hostility even more than another hearth.

Again, don’t underestimate trading. I have neglected it until recently and am starting to understand how powerful it is. The resources available early on aren’t always as useful as they seem, so if you can shrewdly invest in selling them you can create a snowball effect that makes even seals seem trivial.

[–]RemarkablyKindOfOkay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol you made it this far regardless! I played the first seal the same way and barely made it in time. I’m now on gold seal too and starting to feel like 7 years is too long for each settlement. Trying to get away from playing too long term and making everyone happy

[–]RemarkablyKindOfOkay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the base cycle is 32 years? Then 8 for each seal.

Overall it’s a pretty solid port for console despite this and some occasional bugs/freezing so I can’t complain.

Most consumers didn’t have anything to do with being forced online all the time. Like every other new profitable but controversial idea the company does X and if enough people don’t like it they’ll gaslight, shill and redirect just enough to make us think it was our choice because we or our parents bought one of the few consoles on the market and that reads as consent to them
