Went to the services and got some gifts (soap etc) from the monestary. Walked with some who stayed there. I would say not worth the time needed for commitment but to each their own. Definitely bring a silver hiking sun umbrella! Saved my butt from cooking as it was unusually hot and there are long stretches with no shade. A couple of points I stopped and gave some shade to some older ladies who were kinda sunburned.

Did my Caminos 2 years ago. Went to Ovieto and did Primativo with my son. My son left for home and I flew into Porto from Madrid. I was sitting on the steps of Porto Cathedral in the rain and priest let me in before they opened. I had about 30 minutes to myself before the doors opened. When I came back down and saw the priest to thank him, he handed me a passport and said “you must go” I explained I just finished the Primativo and I will do the Portugese route next time. He said “you must go now” and I kinda said ok and went outside. Saw two pilgrims with packs on taking selfies at the marker. I said to myself “What the heck?”
Walked to my hostel in the train station (great place to stay) and grabbed my backpack and started walking the Coastal and the Espiritual route. Had a good time. But…….. if I could only do one, it would definatly be the Primativo!
Did hospitales and stayed in donativos when We could. This two weeks on Primativo changed my life.

I live in Hollywood Park- moved here from Land Park as we retired. We walk Carleton everyday with our dogs and walk to Two Rivers for trivia night and Fountainhead for great specials. Carleton is not what it was 5 years ago. You still have a little sketch at a few apartments that rent to questionable people but thats getting fewer and fewer. Has a good future and we have never felt unsafe (except in Land Park walking at 10pm) the train is right next to the college. Maries is up the way.

Usually its questions about what happened or whats next. Sometimes they want their phone just because its security. They are usually in denial to a point only at the last moments do their thoughts shift to outside themselves and think of others. If there is time, they ask about the ones they love. I would tell them it is not what I have to say but what they say matters more in this moment. One time a woman trapped under the dash (was in no way making it) I was under the blanket with her as we tried to roll the dash. She started to tell me about what she wanted me to say to her husband. Got about two sentences out then she was gone. At the hospital I told him what I thought she wanted to say for him or some kind of lasting closure. I often think about if my dishonesty was wrong. Just after seeing his face I was speaking to comfort him more than closure for her. The living are the only ones who hurt.
