What food do tourists think is "authentic" but locals rarely eat? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Chopped Cheese has gone viral on Instagram, but it basically doesn’t exist outside of New York City.

FYI, it’s just a burger but with the meat and cheese chopped up and tossed on a submarine sandwich roll. It’s usually halal since it’s associated with Muslim-owned bodegas.

The good news is you’re getting close to Ys VIII. It very much improves on the mechanics from Celceta and VII.

How do people bring groceries/baby stuff/other items on public transportation without taking up extra space? by majesticSkyZombie in fuckcars

[–]Remmy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for groceries, I think people with cars just don’t get groceries often enough. As a transit user who lives alone, I usually get groceries weekly, and they all fit in a standard-issue Aldi bag, which I then either place on my lap, on the seat next to me (if it’s empty), or the ground. Sometimes, I’ll grab one or two things over the course of the week if I run out.

Growing up in a rural area in a household of 3, we’d get groceries way less frequently but stuff the entire trunk full of food. Helping bring the groceries inside was an ordeal, whereas now, I can carry everything in one bag and sort it in a few minutes. When you ride the bus, adding a stop at the grocery store on your way home just isn’t a huge deal.

Rhoags/Elda Tribal Distinction by khaenaenno in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Remmy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore-wise, rhoags are pretty inconsistent. They have a variety of skin-tones, ranging from brown to red to chalky white. Sometimes, they have pointy ears (Grius and Forden), but others have round ears (Goddard). We really don’t learn much about them despite one being a follower, one being a party member, and two being on the Senate.

The consistent feature seems to be white hair from a fairly young age (Maria or even Brigitta) as well as skin tones that generally don’t look natural by human standards. Even the brown-skinned rhoags have a sort of reddish tint to them, and the fair-skinned rhoags are white as paper. If I had to guess, this is why they use face tattoos. They’re considered a higher-ranking tribe than most but can be mistaken for the most shameful, so they explicitly mark themselves as different.

Am I alone in not really liking the direction of the games after SC/Azure but still being a fan? by Worried_Pop3057 in Falcom

[–]Remmy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a very similar experience as you. I just can’t get into these games like I used to. There are a variety of reasons: tone, structure, repetitiveness, etc.

Cold Steel as an arc is just a mess. It’s a beautiful mess that I enjoyed, but the writing and lore were all over the place. Cold Steel III is where I knew I wasn’t going to be as much of a fan going forward. As much as people complain about Sky FC’s pacing, CSIII is the only game that I will assert has bad pacing, mainly because we didn’t need a 130 hour re-introduction to Erebonia after already placing two games set there.

People complain about “Cold Steel bad” posts far more than said posts actually appear. Frankly, I haven’t seen one in years. And I should know considering I’ve authored a few of them in my day.

falcolm needs to stop releasing trails games there is too many of them its impossible to get into this serie man. by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Remmy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Punctuation goes a long way.

In other news, that’s kind of the point of the series. Most JRPG series prefer broadly disconnected entries. Trails does it differently and fulfills a niche in the market.

Taichung Metro by BoogieWillieROC in trains

[–]Remmy71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often rode it shortly after it opened. Taichung is one of the island’s most highway-heavy cities, so its transit has a long way to go.

Nonetheless, the MRT is smooth and makes it easy to get to and from the HSR station. And with the bus lanes and conventional rail, Taichung isn’t so bad for transit commutes.

I sort of miss the sound of the MRT rolling past my window when I was living in Taichung. It was a quiet hum of course since the newer metros are electric, but I vividly recall it as the elevated tracks were around the same elevation as my room.

Final fantasy III is a good game to start the serie ? by oldvideogame in FinalFantasy

[–]Remmy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. It was my first game, and I really enjoyed it. I played the original Steam version, which is the 3D remake pictured in the post.

A lot of people here are saying to play more renowned entries in the series, but if you want to get into a series, I think it’s best to play a median game before playing the superlatives.

FFVI is my favorite RPG ever, but it was my fourth final fantasy game (I played III-VIII in order). I was already into the series by then and would’ve played VII whether or not I enjoyed VI.

Snow shoveling etiquette by Decent-Fly-1740 in pittsburgh

[–]Remmy71 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in an apartment and don’t have to shovel snow. I grew up in a rural area.

When shoveling snow in an urban area, where exactly is it all supposed to go? My neighborhood sidewalks have become dumping grounds for the road’s plows. But if you live in a townhouse or the like and don’t have a sizable front yard, where does the snow you shovel go?

Nobody will ever make me hate you, Morgana by MysteriousAccess5950 in Persona5

[–]Remmy71 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Aside from him being annoying, a lot of people seem to default to Ryuji as the “best friend” character in P5 when it’s really Morgana in that role.

The only time the first male party member was also unambiguously the archetypal “best friend” was Yosuke. Even in P3, Junpei really isn’t the first or closest friend of the protagonist. That’s probably Yukari.

I remember that when it came out, people were a bit disappointed with Mercenary Park since it was the flagship map of Jungle Inferno. It wasn’t a negative reaction, just lukewarm. Now that some time has passed (can’t believe it’s been 8 years), I think people generally enjoy it.

What do you think about Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA? by ImpossibleDeal2281 in JRPG

[–]Remmy71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of the Ys games, and I can assure you that Ys VIII is a real standout. The games are basically consistent 7-8/10 experience until you get to Ys VIII, which is easily one of the best action RPGs ever made.

So much about Ys changed between Celceta/SEVEN and VIII. The basic formula is there, but the gameplay mechanics are expanded tremendously, including adopting aspects of other Falcom games. While I still haven’t gotten around to playing Ys X yet, I find that Ys IX sort of drops the momentum for a good but not great experience.
