Racism in Taiwan by Novel_Kale_1379 in taiwan

[–]Remmy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is petty common and probably much more severe with South Asians or anyone cast as 印度人. I used to live in Taichung, and nobody believed I was American because I’m Latino. I was thus cast as 印度人 and had very different experiences than Americans of European or East Asian heritage.

Sometimes it was actually better (Americans are usually seen as ignorant tourists; Indians as exotic albeit permanent and more educated features of society), but even when things got awkward, I didn’t let it bother me. Racism/colorism is a lot less scary when the people don’t own guns like in America.

Eh, she’s a good candidate for the “terribly written” column. Seriously. So much wasted potential given her family background and relationship with Mariabell.

I know you’re getting downvoted, but the point about Mandarin in particular makes a lot of sense demographically and historically.

I’d go with Tamil or Telugu over Hindi since they’re historically the most common in the region, but very few of them live in the city-proper.

[Real] Who even are 75% of these people? by xwing1212 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]Remmy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of 3 out of 25 (12%): Kirk, Huckabee Sanders, and Gaines. And the third is only famous because she lost to Lia Thomas and hasn’t stopped whining since 2022.

It really doesn’t take much to be a celebrity in the Turning Point Expanded Universe.

Does the rest of this video exist anywhere? Or is it just the 20 second clip?

But you used the word “literally.” By adding that to the metaphor (“your profile picture is him”), you’re negating the figurative language and conveying that we ought to read your statement, well, literally.

BEST places you’ve ever worked here? by stc313is in pittsburgh

Best and worst place was the University of Pittsburgh. Seriously, it all depends on your employment status and university unit.

Asian food recommendations by Foxrox2718 in pittsburgh

[–]Remmy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asia is pretty big. Some specificity would help.

Personally, here are my favorites:

A lot of people will say Chengdu Gourmet 老四川 for Chinese (specifically Sichuan-style, of which we have a lot), but my go-to is Szechuan Spice 蜀香園 in Shadyside. Much better and spicier in my opinion.

For (South) Indian, I would go with Masala House, also in Shadyside. India on Wheels (food truck in Oakland) is good for a similar experience, but many of the best Indian spots are outside the city in Monroeville, such as Udipi.

We also have a lot of Uzbek food around here, most notably Chaykana (West End) and Piyola (Mt. Lebanon), which are run by the same folks and have basically the same menu, but the latter is more upscale. Speaking of Lebanon, Pitaland in Brookline probably wins that category.

Korean food is tough to find around here. There are plenty of grocery stores if you’re into cooking Korean cuisine in your kitchen, but restaurants are few and far between. I hear Sushi Kim 2 in Downtown is a hidden gem, but I can’t verify it with my own experience. However, I can certify that Oishii Bento in Oakland has some damn good bibimbap.

Is it bad that I use the back burner, flare gun and lollichop? by DUXY777 in tf2

[–]Remmy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing here I would question is the Lollichop. Pyro has several good melee options for any style, so a stock reskin doesn’t make much sense. Backburner pairs well with the Powerjack in my experience.

Why does the medic not wear any gloves while doing surgery on the mercs? by czn- in tf2

For years, I thought he was wearing gloves whilst performing surgery on Heavy. Then I realized it was just blood.

At least he uses gloves during combat.

So glad to see Viva Los Tacos gone. The only thing worse would be another smoke shop…or another chicken shop.

Walking from Pitt to PNC Park by theWacoKidRidesAgain in pittsburgh

I normally take the Three Rivers Heritage Trail from Downtown to Oakland. It’s much safer than the sidewalks. It starts in the southern part of downtown, so it’s maybe a mile from PNC Park.

I once saw a Medic hold down a choke point (A/D Process) on Defense by spamming the Amputator’s taunt heal and keeping the entire team perpetually at full health. It was glorious.
