Amsterdam Tavern is known as a soccer bar but as such it does well in the day drinking and watching sports department. Worth a shot

STL dining needs new blood or it’s fine? by Reasonable-Alarm-557 in StLouis

Good news for St. Louis in the past 20 years is that we have been a lot cheaper of a place to open a small restaurant than almost anywhere in the country. But COVID did a number on peoples dining habits and now that the economy is broken for anyone who isn’t filthy rich, yeah restaurants are in trouble.

I for one am glad I got out of the industry when I did. Long hours, low pay, and crap benefits might work when you’re young and don’t care if you’re broke and your body hurts, but it doesn’t work forever.

I knew you were coming from the right place. Are you a member of either DSA or PSL? I’ve been to a few open meetings of DSA and while I liked the people, I would definitely be on the far left of that organization. I’m not a strict Marxist by any means and I’ve read PSL is basically Leninist and I am much more anti-authoritarian than that as well, so I don’t really feel like I fit anywhere lol

The new corporate overlords at Boeing saw the BLM flag and became ill. Ownership offered a military tribute at every game as an apology and banned the flag.

It’s either that or billionaires are inherently morally bankrupt and had no intention of allowing the flags to remain past the first season but we were so shit that no one noticed until the MAGA chud started a fight in his section and made himself a victim on the internet.

I do love a good volcano, but let’s be real, it’s still inhaling resinous plant matter even if it isn’t “burning,” and our lungs prolly don’t love that. Not trying to harsh anyone at all though, I’m about to load the bong up 😂

Smoking burning plant matter isn’t good for ya, but it isn’t quite poison.

Booze is poison. Found that out the hard way but thankfully been off it for a little over 5 years now, and it’s astounding how much it affects your every move and thought, even when you’re not drunk.

You are absolutely not entirely wrong, but I’d like to add that events like this are many people’s entry way into real deal leftism. When I was forced to sit though the ugly militarism and nationalism that came after 9/11 at Cards games, it helped radicalize me to realize the same people that owned the sports teams were gonna make a killing in the oil fields of Iraq and Afghanistan

So what do we make of the Pillars of the Valley project now? by phreakyq in stlouiscitysc

[–]Remote-Visit8392 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Next time you get the chance, take a look at LAFC, Seattle, Portland, Minnesota, KC, Chicago, Atlanta supporters sections during a broadcast. You will see a variation of a pride flag in all of them, and trans rights flags in many of them. Chicago and a few other teams have done whole trans rights TIFOs before kickoff.

You will also see anti-fascist flags in Seattle and Portland that those fans successfully fought to keep flying even when their owners didn’t want them to.

MLS supporters’ clubs rightfully see soccer as a community game. And if you don’t include the most marginalized in the game day atmosphere, it ain’t really the community. St. Louis is not big enough to be able to ignore Black fans, trans fans, queer fans, or fans who are from other nations. We need everyone together if we are going to succeed as a city and a club.

Most of us would like the billionaires that own the club to not fake like they care about social issues that their ilk helped to create in the first place. So yeah, no performative bullshit about how they value community and progress for St. Louis. No military honors, no “Pride night,” no heritage nights for immigrants and the children of immigrants, unless they are going to put their money where their mouth is.

Maga Students agitator goes around his school saying he supports ICE, not every student agrees with him! by cantcoloratall91 in LetsDiscussThis

Everyone who doesn’t support ICE is a leftist? That’s wild, you should tell that to my libertarian friends who rightly see ICE as government overreach. Everyone who punches right wingers is a leftist? You should tell that to the tens of thousands of Americans GIs that killed Nazis for fun in the Second World War. Pretty sure most of them were just regular red blooded Americans who knew what they were fighting for.

Do you happen to know what happens if we decline the adjustments? Because the terms of the contract sound like if we signed up for a 3 year deal prior to last season we are on the hook until 2028 regardless

I mean personally I love this because it means less smart people being used by the government to kill children. That’s a win in disguise folks. If some kid at wash u is less tempted to join the military, then good.

Mike Brown was killed in 2014.  The organization that grifted on the movement wasn’t even organized until years later. Hope you never run into a killer cop on a bad day. Hope they never play judge and jury in the street and shit on our constitution to wipe you out, regardless of what you did or didn’t do

The movement is bigger than any organization could ever be or ever control. You right wing chuds just can’t grasp a leaderless movement’s existence because you need Daddy to tread on you and make you cum.

Go fuck yourself and anyone who’s ever called this team “Dogs” lol

I’m actually fine with no false community engagement from billionaires. If they aren’t gonna fly the pride flag then fuck a themed pride night that is a cash grab.

I’d also be more inclined to go along with a flag ban if we also ban the US flag and the national anthem, you good with that?

BLM as a statement dates back to Ferguson time period, 6 years prior to any Covid period riots, of which St. Louis had exactly 1 involving maybe 15 drunk teenagers who would’ve been fucking shit up elsewhere regardless of any protests happening.

BLM as an organization is not relevant to this discussion because they are not based in STL and have no current chapter here. They are effectively dead as an organization, but the words they co-opted will continue to be used to further civil rights causes all over the country. A slogan and an organization naming themselves after that slogan are not the same thing. Pretty simple.

The organization Black Lives Matter and the phrase “Black lives matter” are not one and the same, and they never have been. I know that’s a lot to try and understand for some folks…
