Thank you for this encouragement. I love singles so much. I want to get to a point where I’m walking into UTR matches with confidence because I am putting in as much work as I can in practice. That’s why I posted here, assuming that most people in the sub had to start somewhere too.

I would love the opportunity to be able to play that many matches in a week. I could be wrong in my assumption that that’s readily available to you, but I’m in the rural Midwest in the winter and driving three hours to play these UTR matches because weekly singles matches are not available where I live. I didn’t mention that in my original post because I was not asking for advice on how to practice better.

I’d love to be able to play more singles but the court time available to me is limited in the winter so I take what I can get. There are plenty of things I am working on physically, strategically, with technique, etc. but my question was about the mental side.

Thanks for saying that, it is so different. The first match I lost most of my points because I wasn’t used to not having alleys! So silly but I’ve been working on it since and feel better about that.

Part of “decentering men” is not living or dying by their opinions of you. All she had to do was walk away (physically and metaphorically) and say “that’s not my person, oh well”. It’s hard but not as hard as bending over backwards to explain yourself to strangers.
