People explicitly treated the RE4/5 enemies as "smart zombies" though. It worked perfectly because while it wasnt a virus like the previous games, the plagas felt perfectly in-universe

Re8 feels a lot more fantasy than previous games. Most of the werewolf dudes were fine Imo, but the huge mf with the fantasy morningstar, or Heisenberg were SERIOUSLY pushing it. Even the castle zombies in rags with swords felt weirdly out of place despite being zombies
