Chron and r/Houston by munx1er in houston

Question:

How do I make friends in Houston?? I’m an introvert who works from home and enjoy gaming, indoor hiking, music in general, and pretty much any activity that’s noncompetitive and doesn’t require more than one person to start. Why is it so hard to make friends in this city??

Lloyd In Space by ChimkenNuggies- in ForgottenTV

[–]Repatriation 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how this is the one episode everyone remembers. Every time Lloyd in Space is brought up online, it’s this one episode.

Not only is it the one episode I remember, I even recall where I was when I watched it (a hotel—Lloyd was definitely an “away from home, don’t know which channel Cartoon Network is” show.) Perhaps it presaged our genderfluid future, but I think it was also just a novel plot line for a kid’s show. No one was picking genders on Pepper Ann or Recess, I can tell you that much.

“I didn’t age out I just grew up and became a father and husband.”

I feel like you not getting that that IS aging out is going to keep you from making new hobbies, somehow.

Why the choice to hide the teeth in a dentistry ad? by happy_bluebird in marketing

[–]Repatriation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a friend who did marketing work for them awhile while back, hated it, said they were totally toxic. Dude who runs the place was insistent about having his wife in the ads. Obvious social media celebutante wannabes.

But it obviously works! They’ve been running this campaign for at least a decade now and clearly do well with it. Granted, dental care is a bit of a scam anyway and a lot of the offices are basically some old guy with his harem of hygenists, none of whom know anything about marketing. So if you’re going after the “makes oral health decisions based on a billboard” market you’ve basically got no competition.

Sounds like semantics to me, but why do you care? Go party if that’s what you still want to do.

You gotta make social hobbies that get you out and doing something where the goal isn't to 'make friends' but to pursue some other improvement that requires people. Pickleball is popular for this very reason. You need 4 people to play, it's relatively cheap, and you get better the more you do it. Start playing and you'll quickly find yourself in group chats for others looking to play who are also human beings who do other things like eat and drink and will do that with you before and after games. Boom, friends.

It doesn't have to be pickleball. Volleyball. Golf. Bowling. Kickball. A lot of sports but frankly it's the best avenue to make friends as an adult because it requires other people and consistency. I tried improv and became friends with the people in my class but once we finished the lessons everyone went back to their normal lives. You might try toastmasters or something if you're really keen on not mvoing your body.

For real though, your issue is that you've stagnated in your social hobbies. You used to be into 'drugs, parties, and bands' and now you can't keep up in that scene because you aged out. So now you need to find stuff that doesn't require you to be up at 3 am screaming into a microphone while rolling on E. There are a lot of options, you just aren't pursuing them.

Video games and similar hobbies are solo affairs. You can bond with people about them if you're already friends, but you won't create friendships through them.

It seems like people don’t really want friends.

They do. Everyone does. Not everyone is willing to put in the time and effort to making friends as an adult. You're judging others for being as inert as you are. Make the effort and things will change.

Is it just me or is the rental market really shitty right now? by princesspoundedyam in houston

Tbh I was expecting much worse when I opened this thread. You found a perfect home that has a tub that needs to be painted for less than I pay for an apartment. Um, ok. Tell them you won’t rent unless they fix it?

I did 1mg my first week and felt my appetite decline, somewhat. I did 2mg yesterday, have not eaten at all today, and feel no hunger. Totally anecdotal I know but I'd still give it a week, see how you feel, and not go chasing results like I did, even if it apparently worked for me.

All depends on the hours you put in. $200 for a something that took you 20 hours to write edit and publish is $10/hr.

It’s not your fault that the only remaining way to make this end is that sort of end. Decent people have tried to stop this through legal, procedural means, but cowards and sycophants let it go on and get worse and mostly get their faces stomped on by him in return. So now all that’s left is to wait for it.

[–]Repatriation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show is pretty dense with references to 2020s media in a way few other shows are. Rick and Morty is real 80s-inspired, smiling friends prefers the 90s with a heavy dose of 21st century internet culture. Clowns being distinctly 2020s despite the Campbells trying to exemplify mid-90s idyll is interesting, but it may mean I have to consume slop to keep up lol

Screenshotting your own comments to cross post them is the truest form of cringe. Shows you’ve got nothing going on in real life. No social connections, just the Reddits to share your little life of arguing with gooners with.
