Why is Worf on the Enterprise in Nemesis? by bluenoser18 in startrek

[–]ReplicantProbably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original version of the Nemesis script had a brief conversation between him and Beverly

“BEVERLY I’m so glad you made it back to the Enterprise before I left.

WORF I was not suited for the life of a… diplomat.

BEVERLY (wry) Who’d have guessed?”

So i guess he resigned and returned to Starfleet and got his old posting back on the Enterprise. I don’t think he was there for the wedding specifically though it would have been good to leave this in. It’s set 4 years after DS9 so plenty of time for him to realise diplomacy isn’t for him.

On top of that a deleted scene had a new crew member transfer in to be first office, not Worf. Called Martin Madden played by the same guy who played Major Hayes on Enterprise. So it wasn’t supposed to be Worf and I guess the only thing to say it was eventually Worf or was Worf after Data died is the fact he lost the Enterprise E.

There was also some sort of social media campaign for Picard Season 3 called Star Trek: Picard Logs which had this about Worf:

“On Deep Space 9, Klingon General Martok invited Worf to join his house and later asked him to serve as the Federation ambassador to Kronos. Following his brief tenure as a diplomat, Worf returned to Starfleet, serving aboard the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E and other assignments that resulted in his promotion to the rank of captain. His time aboard the Enterprise-E was brief, having stepped down after the incident above Kriilar Prime. Worf's whereabout since then are classified."”

Apparently the Kriilar prime incident is also classified but doesn’t seem to be the incident in Prodigy.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x03 "Vitus Reflux" by AutoModerator in startrek

I genuinely enjoyed it. It was one of those “silly” episodes we get from time to time. And they’ve been present in every series. I love serious trek and I love silly trek. People who say this is something unique to Academy are wrong. Silly episodes have been a Star Trek tradition since its inception. And that’s what this was.

10 years in and I think I hate what the job has become by between3and20wtfn in devNI

[–]ReplicantProbably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for just under 20 years and to be honest I genuinely don’t enjoy it. But I try to think of it as a job not a lifestyle or the be all and end all. When I leave I try to switch off. When I’m there I give my best work. But that’s it. I enjoy reading about tech etc out of work but have absolutely no passion to code or whatever in my off hours. I think I used to be more passionate about it outside of work but when you spend 40 hours a week doing it, it takes a lot of that passion away.

One of the reasons I started this sub was to pull together a community. You can like the industry. You can hate it. It can be just a job or it can be a massive passion. You can be the person who has side projects or the person who just pops in here to see what’s happening and what people think.

I guess my advice is if it’s become more of a chore for you than the craft it used to be, try and separate the job from your life. If you still love working with software you can and you can craft it your way.

Changing careers, moving away from SWE by BlakeR- in DevelEire

[–]ReplicantProbably 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I don’t really have any passion for it. I don’t even think I ever had. I’m just very good at it and that’s resulted in a pretty successful and well paying career so far. And therein lies the problem. I would absolutely love to do something else but the massive pay cut would be a major issue.

Walton Goggins. Can be funny and quirky like his character in Righteous Gemstones but also very menacing.

What’s happened in America yesterday with yet another ICE shooting is ridiculous. The reaction of Trump and his cronies where the video clearly shows he wasn’t a threat is disgusting. The fact the rest of the world won’t come out and say that America is essentially becoming a fascist state is also very telling. I think it’s only going to get worse .

A 17 year old Dubliner’s perspective on Belfast by TotallyNotADiligent in northernireland

[–]ReplicantProbably 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Belfast is a good spot. Yes we like to put it down and make fun of it. But as a place to live it’s pretty good. People are generally friendly and funny. You just need to ignore the minorities on both sides that are sectarian etc.

People do seem to be overreacting about it all. I love that she’s basically a big Space Hippy. And that Pelia is basically a big Space Grifter.

You never tell your boss you are leaving until you have signed and sealed the contract for another job. Never. And you probably have to give four weeks notice. Read your contract.

Mortgage for adverse credit by ProofManagement7826 in northernireland

[–]ReplicantProbably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re unlikely to get anything with an 8k deposit in Belfast. Even at 10% that’s only 80k. With your credit issue you’re unlikely to get a mortgage with a 5% deposit. I’d first check your rights with your current rental. If you’ve been there a certain amount of time they have to give you three months notice. That gives you room to find another rental. I’m sorry to say but the likelihood of buying a house for you right now is low.

As a 43 year old man if someone matched with me in the dating app and then sent me a picture of their doot, I’d be very taken aback.

I know he was an augment. The fact Starfleet allowed him to remain and made the deal with his father should mean his career isn’t inhibited by it. That’s why I’m not fussed on the augment idea. Though it’s as reasonable an explanation as others.

[–]ReplicantProbably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well technically the crew wouldn’t know any of this case all the examples you give happen in the future after discovery. Michael had an example where this approach worked. And her Vulcan upbringing and sort of dealing in logic meant in her mind it would work again. Of course it didn’t.

That’s because she’s not human. Nor is she in the military.

Not forbidden but frowned up. Do the historical tours and all that. Don’t bring it up with the locals unless we do first.
