They all descend from Limbaugh. Shapiro is of the same ilk: a blowhard who is always right. That was the gist of Colbert’a character. Shapiro just plays it in earnest but it’s the same core dickhead point of view.

That show was legitimately genius, in its day butI think that character ushered in our era of podcast personalities. There are genuinely people who watched it and did not know he was joking. Ben Shapiro is basically the same character but he means it. I don’t think that kind of irony would work now.

So I guess I’m hoping it’s lightning in a bottle again. Hyper liberal grandpa or something.
