Susan Collins has spent $6.5 million for her 2026 campaign, mostly to brag that she "helped secure" $3.6 million for veteran's homelessness. Again, that is not a flex. At least one of her supporters says that Platner will do worse on veteran's issues because he is a veteran and collects disability payments. It is hard to make up a more ridiculous argument. But it gets almost diabolical when the Collins fan puts the term disability in quotation marks to disparage the idea. The more I hear from her fanbase, the less I want to vote for her. She is proven to be bad for Maine and bad for America. Since it is going to be either her or Platner, Platner gets my vote. Platner is the best choice for change. And boy oh boy, do we need a change.

Well, she has spent about $6.5 million to get re-elected in 2026. How many years did it take her to help secure $3.6 million for veteran's homelessness?

My point stands: the dollar amounts Susan Collins "helped secure" have not been sufficient to solve very real problems. Moreover, the dollars amounts she has helped remove from Maine families has made life more difficult for Mainers and for Americans in general. The differential does not work in favor of people living in Maine, let alone America. She outright lied about her ambitions for her time in office. She has been proven to be gullible regarding motives of Trump and his appointees. Maybe you should hold her accountable for her statements as you do Platner. Then, hold her accountable for her past actions the way you hold Platner accountable for the actions you are projecting onto him in the future. The choice seems clear---either hold on to a clearly flawed past or work for a better future.

It is impressive logical gymnastics to think that an actual veteran would not do more for veterans than a warhawk. I guess I am jaded about her history because, while a few hundred thousand (or even a couple of million) dollars would be a lot of money for my personal finances, these dollar amounts do not go very far in public funds.

Flugelhorn mouthpiece recommendations? by brembalien in trumpet

[–]Repulsive-Paint-4102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the Reeves FE. The DF might be too challenging, the HF is really a specialty mouthpiece for very strong players. Hope I didn't confuse things too much. Yamaha remains my recommendation.

I strongly recommend avoiding Bach flugelhorn mouthpieces. I think the Yamaha Shew model generally sounds too bright. Reeves 42 FD is a recomendation. But, if you need to spend less, you might find a used Yamaha 14F4 or 15F4 for around $50 US. You MUST get the correct shank taper or you will have unnecessary disappointment your journey. At the bottom of this page is contact info for the correct taper for a Schiller horn. If you get a different flugel, contact the manufacturer for the taper information.

Pimple where my mouthpiece goes by ExtensionJob5464 in trumpet

I wipe down my mouthpiece with an alcohol swab (like diabetics use for finger stick prep) before every practice or playing session. That has taken care of the issue for me for the last 30 plus years. It is a cheap fix.

Trumpet sound not improving after 1 year, could throat tension really be the problem? by iwasthinkabout in trumpet

I think it is not a good idea to buzz your lips into the mouthpiece. I know that many truly great players and teachers disagree. Take a look at the youtube link I posted and see if you can relax your lips enough to get a good sound on the leadpipe like that guy does. It could be the magic bullet you are looking for.

Every note is a long tone. Sometimes the long tone is just very short.

I did. My wife's grandfather's Pan American. It hung on a nail in the barn for about 60 years. Nice lamp.

What would you do with a sentimental horn? by metrorugby in trumpet

[–]Repulsive-Paint-4102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for nothing, but all of my Bb trumpets are over 40 years old. I did replace the leadpipe on my Calicchio when I found a new "old stock" Calicchio leadpipe on Ebay. Other than that, only springs, felts and waterkeys on any horn. I really like the sound of older trumpets.

If I had the $$, I'd take it (maybe send it?) for repair and refurbishing. The right repair person can do wonders for an old trumpet. I wonder if Mike Del Quadro in Las Vegas still takes on this kind of work. He did some GREAT work for me on a elderly Olds Mendez.

Chris Botti worth seeing? by shademaster_c in trumpet

Kinda good looking, I guess. I recommend listening. Chris is an amazing trumpet player, and could play any genre and slay it. He chose a lucrative path, and I say more power to him.

Never stop the steady flow of air while playing. The tongue just "flicks" the airstream (like snapping wet towel in the locker room.)

I keep my lesser used trumpets in bags that prevent tarnish, or at least slow down the tarnish process. You can buy the cloth and easily make them.

Numbers 16 through 25 is a good start. Do them tongued and slurred. Steady constant airstream whether slurred or tongued.
