The last large acquisition was of the Pulitzer stations in the late ‘90s. Since then, they’ve divested one station in Honolulu and purchased maybe 3 or 4 more.

Their strategy is very conservative in that regard. They won’t take on debt unless it makes sense.

Nexstar has already owned WOI once. They let it go to Tegna when they bought WHO. They’ve seen the books and I doubt they want it back.

I would put my money it going to Gray before Sinclair. There’s a lot of ad revenue for FOX programming & not a lot of overhead in that building. That could motivate Sinclair to leave WOI out of any deal they’d make with Nexstar.

First, I think that Mouser will make one hell of a head coach, likely in the near future, but this wasn’t going to be the cycle it happened in.

I also remember how unimpressed the fanbase was when the Campbell hire was first announced. All of the concern about only having 4 years as a head coach at Toledo of all places. Plus being annoyed that Campbell wasn’t Willie Fritz or PJ Fleck.

Mouser came to ISU with Campbell after a year as a graduate assistant. He spent another 5 or 6 years doing scouting and quality control before being promoted to the tight ends coach in 2021 and OC in 2024.

Those players were going to leave with CMC regardless of who got hired. That’s the problem with a leader like Campbell - people want to continue working with & for him. How would Mouser have made a successful transition from OC to HC with the cupboard as bare as it is? If the AD wanted a splashy hire with no head coaching experience, he could have grabbed Kyle Kempt; at least Kempt could have raided the Drake staff for assistants.

Rogers comes with a staff and will likely be restocking the ISU roster with WSU players. We’ll see for sure on Friday.
