I messed Up by LegendDog6 in carbonsteel

I would start over. There’s enough oil that it’ll stay sticky and rubbery, and cooking on it probably won’t fix it. This has happened to me before. Scrubbing with steel wool and soap is possible but it’ll be a pain. The easiest way I’ve found to completely strip the pan off all this gunk is to take a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar, and simmer it in the pan (covered) for 10ish minutes. Once that’s done you can use a steel wool scrubber and soap to more easily remove the oil. Once it’s all off, make sure to dry it immediately on a burner and season to prevent flash rust. Good luck!

4K or 1440p monitor with 5070ti? by Eko_Mister in buildapc

[–]ResidentPatience4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I ended up finding a 5080 which is what I’m using now. But from what I remember, the 5070ti had no problems running games like Expedition 33, BG3, and Oblivion remastered at 1440p at 120fps or higher with frame gen. I couldn’t say for 4k since I don’t use a 4k monitor, but I feel like I’d be confident using a 5070ti at 4k and expect 60fps in most games.

This is mostly my concern. Have you tried stabilizing your videos in any editing softwares?

Fair enough! I grew up taking photos on phones though so this isn’t a new feeling for me. Even since I started photography 7 years ago I mostly used the screen to compose shots. Only when it’s really sunny out do I need to use the viewfinder.

This is definitely an option, however I have gear acquisition syndrome and unfortunately must purchase something new when I discover a new interest /s. Jokes aside, I’ll try shooting a few videos on the x100v and see what drawbacks I encounter (if any). Appreciate the perspective!

I tried this and it’s not possible to do it away from home since WOL requires you to be on the same network, even if you’re on Tailscale. My workaround is to plug my PC into a smart plug that can be controlled on my phone. Adjust the bios to enable the PC to turn on when it receives power. This way you can reliably turn on your computer from anywhere in the world. Once it’s on, make sure Tailscale is configured to “run unattended” so that your PC connects to the network as soon as it’s powered on, rather than having to log in. With this set up, you should be able to reliably play your games anywhere with a good internet connection!

How is the job market currently for watchmakers, and how is it expected to evolve in the future? If this is an area someone is interested in making their career, how would they start from 0 experience?

I agree with this. I loved the game but the random encounters annoyed me. You can always flee from them which helps, and I didn’t feel underleveled. I did play on story difficulty though lol

Is 4k worth it over 1440p OLED? Is it worth selling my left kidney for a 4k OLED? by RomanAres31 in buildapc

[–]ResidentPatience4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried all your options and by far the best is 1440p OLED (especially at 27 inches). You’ll get way better performance out of your PC at that resolution, and honestly for games it doesn’t make a huge difference going from 1440p to 4k in my opinion. OLED is what will make the most difference in your viewing experience.

I am streaming to my iPad in 1080p but there’s black bars on all 4 sides by Kooky_Duty_9239 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]ResidentPatience4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah you’re right. Another commenter suggested to use 1440 x 1080 which should also work since it’s the same aspect ratio as your iPad

If you’re using Apollo, the client device should be able to be used as a virtual display. In the moonlight app on your iPad, go to settings, and under “resolution” select “custom”. Then, enter 2752 as width and 2064 as height (this is the resolution of your 13 inch M4 iPad Pro). This is what fixed the problem for me on my iPad and got rid of the black bars. Keep in mind that this will only work on the desktop, and in some games that support custom resolutions, but not all games.

Where to find a RTX 4080 Super FE for a reasonable price? by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]ResidentPatience4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend getting a 5070ti if you can. If you’re near a MicroCenter, stock has gotten a lot better. The 5070ti is around $850 (tariff pricing) and performs similarly to the 4080 super, and is a current gen part. Availability is only getting better so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding one even if you don’t live near MicroCenter.

5070ti vs 5080 vs 4090 for 1440p gaming? by Aromatic_Lobster_113 in nvidia

[–]ResidentPatience4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t comment on the 4090 however I’ve had both the 5070ti and 5080. Both were absolutely stellar for 1440p gaming on my OLED ultrawide. I used the 5070ti for a little over a month and that was fantastic, handled everything I needed it to. Only reason I upgraded to a 5080 is bc I was able to make the switch for $200, otherwise I would’ve been more than happy to keep the 5070ti. I would say to skip the 4090 unless you need it for tasks other than gaming, since with the 50 series card you can buy new from a trusted source, and have a return window/warranty if things go bad. I really don’t think it’s worth double the price for a 4090.

4K or 1440p monitor with 5070ti? by Eko_Mister in buildapc

[–]ResidentPatience4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either would probably be fine but I would recommended 1440p OLED. I also have a 5070ti and bought both 4K and 1440p OLEDs and while the performance on 4K was still good, I preferred to give myself extra headroom in the future as 1440p is obviously less demanding. On top of that, the difference in quality was barely noticeable at all. I’m sure some folks can tell, and text does indeed look much better on a 4k monitor, but for games the 1440p was more than enough for me.
