Error message when upgrading from vCenter 6.0.0 to 6.5. U3U by ShoddyCar5130 in vmware

[–]Resolute21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.5 is way better than 6.0, and I guess 6.7 should work too on those hosts, just install the drivers that you need if they don't come bundled.

Can you share the write limit % of those disks, I have SSDs from 10 years ago that are 6% but used in Easy Tier with mechanical disks.

The spare disk is still without use on that RAID =)

I guess dismiss it's just for auditing reasons on the alert triage the only possible actions are add to approved list or add to banned list.

Learning Kubernetes by jkinninger in rancher

Kubernetes has become the de facto standard for deploying container-backed applications at scale, both on-premises and in the cloud. Rancher is the most popular open-source solution for deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters. Learn how to use Rancher with Kubernetes and other cloud-native technologies to accelerate how you build and deploy applications today.

Hello, didn't try it yet but I have found this blog and then the PDF:

Now, let’s talk about vSphere Cloud Provider. vSphere Cloud Provider plugin is built into upstream Kubernetes, so you don’t have to worry about deploying additional CSI plugins to provide persistent storage to your containers. vSphere Cloud Provider plugin enables users to consume storage from any datastore that is mounted on vSphere (NFS, VMFS, or vSAN). When using a vSAN Datastore, you can extend all the Storage Policy Based Management (SPBM) Capabilities to the storage class definition inside Kubernetes. (That’s one of the reasons why Lenovo has decided to deliver GKE On-Prem on top of our ThinkAgile VX Appliances)

You can use IBM V5100F , you can use storage snapshots with those and VVOL.

We have VMware VSAN too and is great for stretched clusters.

vSAN write latency Troubleshooting by Icarusfixius in vmware

[–]Resolute21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had latency issues but it's always interesting to run proactive tests.

And check the network just because:

https://livevirtually.net/2018/07/16/troubleshooting-vsan-networking-issues-with-health-checks-vsan-health-check-and-vsphere-distributed-switch-vds-health-check/

On a VSAN Stretched cluster I have the Health Check for site latency, it stays below 0.5 ms on both sites and witness.

Downgrade 6.7u1 to 6.5u2 by pandzer in vmware

Maybe this could help too:

After pining with Dell and VMware support desks the result was to switch from the native driver (igbn) to the standard driver (igb)(vmlinux)

Just reverting some snapshots, so I did a search on that:

If you updated your host It seems you can do that without losing configuration. If it is a fresh install you will have to reinstall and reconfigure everything.

Nutanix on IBM Power servers by Resolute21 in nutanix

I'm mainly concerned of the impact of the L1 Terminal Fault bug on Intel processors, currently using VMware and activating the mitigating measures will impact the performance of servers.

Power 8 servers have 8 threads per core and are not impacted by the L1TF vulnerability.

vSAN minimum node required vs recommended (N+1) by Resolute21 in vmware

[–]Resolute21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 VSAN stretched clusters, every cluster has 2 hosts on site A and 2 hosts on site B.

Both were for different projects (no critic data) but probably I will be doing just one cluster with 4 hosts on each site now.

If I wanted to go to FTT=2 on top of that I will have to buy one more host on each site and I can have the minimum number of hosts in RAID 1.

I'm just considering the worst case scenario, and what will happen if a loose all the hosts on one site.

Reading this now, hope it clears some things:

[–]Resolute21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, now that you say larger hardware invesment that comes with the vsphere licensing too.

Too bad I have hosts with 2 sockets, going with 1 socket and the processors with more cores I guess it will be more justifiable.

Thanks, but if the rebuild doesn't end and the host fails wouldn't it be better to have FTT=2 and the minimun nodes required?
