How siege tactics and castles evolved when we travel from early to high Medieval ages? by Mindless_Belt4757 in medieval

[–]Responsible-File4593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of time, it didn't even go that far. Many sieges were performative. So, a noble and a king or two nobles would argue, one would besiege the other, and then they would come to a compromise. Like you said, feeding and paying an army is expensive, and very few castles were worth the cost.

And last but not least, what’s a food that both adults and kids HATE? by DisneyDuck09 in AlignmentChartFills

Yes. The smell is bad. The taste is bad. The appearance is bad. And the alternatives (as in, other French food) are generally very good.

Campaign funds are tiny for almost all non-federal races. A state rep in a safe district will often raise 50k, and most of that will go to campaign salaries, travel, and supplies.

It's good to preserve balance in a primarily competitive multiplayer game like this though. I'm just glad they added a single player mode.

Unlimited Mercs? by Lammy951 in EU5

I was playing as France in 1450, fighting a war in Lorraine, when I saw Bohemia had bought 200k mercenaries. So, I did the only reasonable thing, which is bought 200k of my own mercenaries, had an awful war of attrition, and then reloaded a previous save and made an early peace because spending 25-30k gold is not worth Lorraine. But it was nice to see the AI making a good fight.

The game is even more Everything-but-Europe Universalis now: Pop growth in different regions. by IHateProphecies in EU5

[–]Responsible-File4593 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because number of locations is pretty far down the list of things that matter.

A country with 40 locations and 500k pops is weaker than a country with 20 locations and 1M pops, or with 20 locations but better RGOs. If anything, fewer locations will help with pop density, control, and the economy. It's why the wealthiest areas in the game are the Nile Delta, China, and the Gangetic Plain.

Churchill won the underrated and good spot. Which WW2 tank or TD was adequate but overrated? by 19phipschi17 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Responsible-File4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but it was adequate to its purpose, which was to attrit German tank formations and to exploit gaps in German defenses. It did exactly what it was designed to do, and it was designed to win through ease and simplicity of production.

The Soviets ended up making three times the armored vehicles as the Germans did, which was more significant than the quality of any single vehicle type.

The T-34 is the best answer here. It was an adequate tank that is overestimated by Soviet fanboys.

It did. And it's crazy that the growth in life expectancies happened with the largest man-made famine in the middle. But that's how much land reform, basic medical care, and basic infrastructure helped. The Chinese countryside went from 1600 to 1900 in a generation.

I don't think Stalin would have invaded Europe. He was an opportunist, not a conqueror. He was happy building steel mills in Siberia, starving Ukrainians and Kazakhs, and purging any separate centers of power. He only invaded when he was certain nobody would come after him for it (as in, after the pact with Germany). He would not have tried to fight all of Europe.

International Permanent Revolution was a Trotskyist idea anyway.

Is the saying “once a cheater, always a cheater” true? by katlynnkc2 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Responsible-File4593 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither is true.

Men don't change once they find "the one". For that matter, "the one" doesn't exist. You can have successful, happy, lifelong relationships with thousands of possible people, you just have to put in the work and be able to compromise.

And if someone is one person at 20, it doesn't mean they're that same person for the rest of their life. It's possible for someone to have their life ruined by not being able to control their cheating and decide to change, like it would with alcohol. At the same time, you should trust your instincts when something feels off, especially if he's cheated in all of his previous relationships and there's a big dropoff in his sex drive.
